Choice Privileges Gold elite status after Norway reward nights

This year I have stayed 14 nights in Choice Hotels with one free night in Chicago on an approved best rate guarantee and 13 nights in Norway by redeeming 216,000 points.

A welcoming message from Choice Privileges came after I returned from a two week trip to Norway last month where I stayed 13 nights using points at six different Nordic Choice Hotels.

I received Choice Privileges Gold elite status after reaching 10 nights stayed this calendar year with my 13 Norway reward nights.

Choice Gold

My Choice Privileges counter went from 0 nights to 13 nights after Norway. Choice Privileges counts reward nights for elite status.

The primary benefit of Choice Privileges Gold elite besides 10% bonus points is an extended booking window for reward nights.

One of the primary drawbacks of Choice Privileges for USA members is the restriction that reward nights can only be booked within 30 days of the hotel stay for hotels in your region of residence.

Choice Privileges elite benefits

Choice Privileges Gold elite extends that booking window out to 50 days for making reward night reservations in the USA.

For the time being that is a moot point since I am sitting on 0 points in my Choice Privileges account after two weeks in Norway.

I am looking forward to U.S. Travel Association’s Daily Getaways 2015.

Award nights at these properties count toward elite status in the US program, but regular paid nights at these same properties may be another story.

@GUWonder – Paid nights at Nordic Choice Hotels do not earn points or elite credit in Choice Privileges. You must be a member of Nordic Choice Club.

Choice Privileges points can be used for Nordic Choice Hotels reward stays.

My first post on Farris Bad Spa, Ascend Collection hotel in Larvik, Norway is about the problem I had showing up at the hotel and being told I had no reservation.

Apparently I was the first person to ever redeem Choice Privileges points for a reward stay at the hotel and their system did not process the reward. I was downgraded for two nights of a 3-night stay from the ocean view room I booked to a standard room. On Monday morning, the third day of my stay, the manager called Oslo and confirmed I had made a reservation with Choice Privileges points. I was upgraded to a $900 per night ocean view suite for my third night.

Receptionist at The Thief Oslo, the top luxury hotel in Oslo and also an Ascend Collection member in Nordic Choice Hotels, commented that I was the first person she had known to redeem Choice Privileges points for a stay at the hotel.
