Le Meridien Chicago Oakbrook Center continues growth of Starwood brand

Le Meriden Chicago Oakbrook Center opened this week in the affluent western suburb of Oak Brook, Chicago about 20 miles from downtown Chicago hotels. The hotel uses Oakbrook as one word. The city name Oak Brook is two words. Oak Brook is headquarters to McDonald’s and Ace Hardware.

The 172-room Le Meriden Chicago Oakbrook Center enters Starwood Preferred Guest as a high category 5 hotel at 12,000 points. This category 5 award level means peak season dates may apply during the year at 16,000 points per night.

The hotel features six Executive Suites and one Presidential Suite. The Classic Room features a 46-inch TV and chaise lounge. There is a Club Lounge for the hotel. Internet is $12.95 per day if you are not elite.

Le Meridien Hotels have an art-centric hotel design focus. Le Meridien Chicago Oakbrook Center features Chicago area imagery and photographs.

  • $110 + 6,000 points Cash & Points rate.

The hotel is pet-friendly at $25 per day for dogs up to 40 pounds. Larger dogs are allowed at hotel’s discretion.

Cash & Points is not a good deal on Friday, October 10 and not available for other hotel dates I randomly picked for sample room rate checks. Actually Cash & Points awards are widely available most dates in September and October checking the Flexible Dates Calendar. There are big savings paying $110 + 6,000 points on a weekday compared to $300 rates.

Starwood Hotels acquired the French Le Meridien brand in 2005. Most of the Le Meridien hotels where I stayed in 2006 and earned Starwood credit have been rebranded as properties were shed in the initial years of Starwood ownership. The brand dropped in size for several years, but now is up to 95 hotels worldwide with more than 80% of the hotels in 40 countries outside the USA.

If that’s the rehabbed Ren, they use one word because the shopping mall on whose property outlot the hotel is located is called “Oakbrook Center.”

That was actually one of the original Stouffers hotels back in the day, and became Renaissance when New World Development bought Stouffer Hospitality in the early 1990s.
