Marriott has teamed up with VISA for a real deal discount on suites and executive lounge access upgrade rooms for hotels in Caribbean and Latin America from June 1 to July 14. Third night free rates makes this offer one to look at if your travels take you south of the USA in June and July. These rates must be booked by July 10. You must pay with VISA for these rates.
The email from Marriott titled ‘20% off during the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil’ did not hold much interest for me. I am not planning to be in Brazil. Then, I saw the list of hotels covers much of the Americas from the Caribbean to Mexico to Central America and South America. More importantly, my analysis of the past hour reveals this promotional offer has the best rates available at these hotels for entry level suites. Many of the participating properties are resorts.
The promotional rates require payment with a Visa card. There are several different offers in play and some hotels might give you a real savings on suites and dining prices.

Marriott VZ0 Hotel Discount Rate analysis
This offer shows real discounts for upgraded junior suites and suites compared to other available rates at hotels I checked. AAA rates might be a better deal for Executive Level rooms with lounge access at some hotels.
The best deal here seems to be the third night free offer in a suite. The ‘Golden Goal’ 20% discount rate combines with the ‘Extra Time’ 3rd night free for a real discount.
JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa
$838 AAA rate after tax for three nights in a standard Garden View balcony room with King bed, lowest room category at the Marriott Resort.
$1,047 FIFA World Cup Visa VZ0 rate after tax for three nights in one-bedroom suite, oceanfront balcony room with two double beds.
$1,109 AAA rate after tax for three nights in a standard room, oceanfront balcony with two double beds.
$1,963 Standard rate after tax for three nights in one-bedroom suite, oceanfront balcony with two double beds.
This FIFA sale is the real deal. Paying 25% more per night gives an upgrade from the basic room at the Guanacaste Resort to an oceanfront one-bedroom suite. The FIFA Visa rate is $300 per night less than the standard rate for a one-bedroom oceanfront suite at this resort.
Three nights in a one bedroom oceanfront suite is only $205 more for this three night stay than the lowest rate standard room. Oceanfront in Costa Rica for $350 per night all in. That is still a high nightly room rate, yet a bargain for this specific hotel. 20% off food & beverage also applies to the stay.
Tegucigalpa Marriott Honduras
Similar savings were found at the far less expensive Tegulcigalpa Marriott.
$330.76 AAA rate after tax for three nights in a standard King City View room, lowest room category at the Marriott Resort.
$421.80 AAA rate after tax for Executive Lounge access, King City view, high floor.
$597 $398 FIFA World Cup Visa VZ0 rate after tax for Executive Lounge access, King bed, City view, high floor with 3rd night free based on $597 rate before free night credit.
$739.70 $494 FIFA World Cup Visa VZ0 rate after tax for three nights for Executive Lounge access, 1 Bedroom Junior Suite, 1 King, City view high floor.
The VZ0 rate at Tegulcigalpa Marriott is 50% more to upgrade from the lowest category room to a junior suite on a high floor with Executive Lounge access. The rate increase is from $110 per night to $165 per night.
The Executive Lounge only upgrade is less with the FIFA Visa than the AAA rate. The upgrade to the junior suite is $30 per night more than the standard room available with the VZ0 code.
FIFA World Cup Brazil VISA rates must be booked by July 10, 2014 for stays to July 14, 2014. The hotels I checked had flexible cancellation for these rates at day before arrival.
