Analysis of eight Best Rate Guarantee claims with six hotel chains

This post is a table summary of eight Best Rate Guarantee claims I made this past week with hotel brand rate, online travel agency lower rate, hotel chain response time for my claim and claim results with reasons. There are many reasons a best rate guarantee claim will be denied. Nearly all the reasons given for these denied claims were poor reasons.

BRG claims

Choice Hotels is the only rejection I consider appropriate considering the circumstances. Apparently I was given a 3% targeted discount through easytobook.com when I clicked through Hipmunk, Kayak or Hotelscombined.com metasearch engines. I am not sure which site showed the discount easytobook.com rate and I could not locate the link on any of the three metasearch sites again after my initial search.

My hotel reservations are all set for my road trip from Jacksonville, Florida to Norfolk, Virginia next week. Now that the hotels are set, my travel planning switches gears to activities. I really want to see an alligator and there are some swamp kayaking and canoe excursions to check out.

I have found Hyatt also to be very fair in their process as well. The advantage is you get it straight away as well. In general Starwood is OK to.

I left Hilton as my primary hotel chain when they refused my BRG claim and then the CEO failed to answer my letter of complaint. I had been with them for years but couldn’t accept their blatant dishonesty in that situation. And that’s really all we can do, is vote with our feet. Glad to see you providing this service.

So Marriott is the only honest hotel chain? Maybe this makes up for their weak frequent traveler program.

Best Western BRG absolutely s**ks. Submitted two claims with them until now, and none were approved because of ‘discounted rates’ on the other website. It’s a farce.

@FYD – I had a few IHG best rate guarantee free nights in 2013.

Hyatt approved my five night best rate guarantee claim for Hyatt Regency Minneapolis in February 2014 and I upgraded the stay with a Diamond suite certificate.

Choice approved my best rate guarantee for Inn of Chicago, Ascend Collection earlier this month and I had a Starwood approved best rate guarantee.

I have had Marriot denied, with a clear difference in rates.

    Can’t find a Hyatt I need.

    Can’t find IHG

Choice came back with a BRG an hour after I made the claim and took the average rate minus 20% instead of the higher rate minus 20% for my second night.
