Hyatt Gold Passport launches Endless Possibilities offer January 15 – April 30, 2014, a global promotion for one free night after every 5 paid nights. This offer is limited to 4 free nights earned after 20 paid nights. The free night certificate is valid for category 1 to 4 hotels and expires July 31, 2014. The short validity of the free night certificate is a big limitation to the value of free night awards.
Registration is scheduled to open January 9, 2014. There is currently no link to share. This information is from Hyatt as released on FlyerTalk and MilePoint.
Hyatt Gold Passport members can choose to earn bonus points instead of free nights. The number of bonus points earned increases at 5 nights, 10 nights, 15 nights and 20 nights.
- 5 nights = 5,000 bonus points for 5,000 total bonus points.
- 10 nights = 10,000 points for 15,000 total bonus points.
- 15 nights = 15,000 points for 30,000 total bonus points.
- 20 nights = 20,000 points for 50,000 totalbonus points.
Free nights are the better deal in my opinion, unless you plan to hit 15 or 20 nights for 30,000 or 50,000 bonus points.
Hyatt’s introduction of Points + Cash awards coming January 7, 2014 may improve the equation for earning points compared to free nights.
Hyatt Endless Possibilities Promotion Analysis
A category 4 hotel is 15,000 points for a free night. This is a good value bonus for staying five nights with Hyatt during the promotion. At the category 4 level, there are dozens of hotels where a free night will save $300 on room rate.
Hyatt Regency San Francisco is a category 4 Hyatt Gold Passport hotel. First date I checked for midweek May when weather is generally great is $354 after tax per night on a prepaid, nonrefundable rate for Wednesday, May 14.
I view paying for 5 nights at an average hotel rate of $100 for a total $500 in hotel spend and getting a free night in San Francisco as a good value. I look at the free night as a $200 value since I wouldn’t pay $354 for a hotel room in San Francisco, so that room rate is irrelevant as a measure of the free night value. I’d be going Priceline at that rate.
I value a free night as a $200 value and a 40% rebate on $500 in hotel spend for five paid nights. My account still has some suite upgrades valid into February 2014. The nights component means a 5-night paid stay with a suite upgrade using only one certificate would be easy hotel living to earn a free night.
Of course the rebate value declines if you are spending $200 per night or more for your Hyatt stays.
Hyatt Gold Passport Points Award savings and a case for earning bonus points instead of free nights.
Hotel du Louvre Paris, a Hyatt hotel = Hyatt Gold Passport category 5 hotel award = 20,000 points per night as of January 7, 2014.
Free night awards from Endless Possibilities offer are restricted to category 1 to 4 hotels. Free night certificates will not get you into Hotel du Louvre, Paris.
Hyatt Standard Category 5 award stay of 4-nights = 80,000 points.
80,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points buy a room rate = $2,865 USD.
That is $35.81 per 1,000 points Hyatt Gold Passport points redemption value.
Earning 50,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points for this redemption could be viewed as about $1,800 in bonus points value from the 2014 Hyatt promotion.
Hyatt Gold Passport Points + Cash
Hyatt Points + Cash awards become an award option on January 7, 2014.
A category 5 Points + Cash award for 4 nights for Hotel du Louvre, assuming it were available for June 17-21, 2014 would cost 40,000 points + $500 USD.
In this example 40,000 points saves nearly $2,365 on a 4-night Points + Cash award stay at Hotel du Louvre Paris. Points + Cash award nights count for elite status. The award value of these points is slightly more than $59 per 1,000 points. There is additional value is conserving 40,000 points compared to a standard award at 80,000 points.
The whole Points + Cash value ultimately depends on availability of these awards. There may be no option except pay the rate or redeem for a Standard Award at the Hotel du Louvre, Paris next June.
In any case, earning points is the better option for this promotion if you desire category 5, 6 or 7 hotels redemptions with points.
Also, the expiration of the free night certificates July 31, 2014 is an important consideration when choosing between free nights and bonus points for your Hyatt stays January 15 to April 30, 2014.
