SPG Hot Escapes hotel list

SPG Hot Escapes is still screwing around with their website. This week the “See All” button is removed which forces visitors to go through each page of properties. I kind of felt that was the website’s intention the first week of SPG Hot Escapes. This week’s change makes that more evident.

This weekly promotion seems more of an effort to get people to think of their properties in terms of vacation categories rather than bring people to the site for hotel discount rates. I think every Starwood Hotel in Canada is on this list, but the categorization leaves something to be desired.

Four Points Calgary Airport as a ‘romantic getaway’ destination. Seriously?

Sheraton on the Falls Hotel, Niagara Falls is found in the Family Destination category. My parents remember that hotel as the romantic spot they vacationed.

Sheraton Ottawa is only listed under Family Hotels and not in the City hotels section.

Aloft Chapel Hill in the Family section. These rooms barely accommodate one person, let alone a family.

The person in charge of organizing these hotels is an idiot and obviously does not use the website. Who has time to go through the different categories searching for hotels which may only appear in one randomly assigned category?

Come on Starwood. You can do better than this.

At least bring back the button to place all the hotels on one page. That “All List” button was useful and it is not there this week.

It is sort of misleading to entice people into SPG Hot Escapes by the rate shown to only find the low rate available one or two dates. For example Sheraton Times Square New York is a steep discount at $136 per night, however, that rate is only available November 25 and 26.

There are some really low rates here. This was the list at 12 noon New York time, Wed Nov 6.

After taking the time to create this geographical list, I am kind of pissed that SPG makes it so hard to see the hotels. This is a stupid marketing plan for a hotel company in my opinion. Does geography not matter any more?
