Hotel Indigo Opera Paris coming in 2014

IHG is remodeling a hotel in Paris to be branded as Hotel Indigo Opera in second half of 2014. This will be the first Hotel Indigo in Paris. IHG says it will be a 57-room hotel after major renovation.

Located just a few steps from Opera Garnier and the InterContinental Paris Le Grand, this addition follows the recent signings of the Hotel Indigo boutique brand in Rome and Brighton.

IHG Press Release – July 22, 2013

The existing hotel is reported to be the Edouard 7. This hotel received a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence 2013. The hotel is currently ranked #256 on TripAdvisor of 1,796 hotels in Paris. The two previous links are web pages where you can see lots of photos of Edouard VII hotel.

Let’s see if Hotel Indigo branding can pull the hotel up in TripAdvisor rankings. Edouard 7 looks like it is satisfying guests already with 203 of 233 favorable ratings of ‘Very Good’ and ‘Excellent’ on TripAdvisor.com.

There are currently 11 Hotel Indigo properties open in Europe and recent signings added Rome and Brighton, UK. Another 14 Hotel Indigo locations are in the pipeline for Europe, which will open in the next three to five years.

This looks like a great Paris hotel addition for IHG Rewards Club travelers with points. I doubt the average room rates for the Hotel Indigo Opera will be a bargain for the traveler on a budget.

I’d love to be wrong about Paris hotel rates, but every time I check rates in Paris they blow my mind. There were some bargain rates for Paris this month for stays in August, but fewer bargain rates are found when staying in the major brand hotels. Points for Paris is usually a good strategy.

Not a huge fan of Paris, but this is interesting as far as branding is concerned. Will be interesting to see what comes of this.
