Choice Hotels has posted fall season reward rates for European hotels covering dates September 16 – November 30, 2013.
Comfort Hotel Mouffetard/Latin Quarter, Paris
The bad news is no hotels in Paris or London drop to 8,000 points in the fall. Here is the breakdown of reward night rates for
18 Choice Hotels in Paris from September 16-November 30, 2013.
- 12,000 points = 1 hotel.
- 16,000 points = 6 hotels.
- 20,000 points = 1 hotel.
- 25,000 points = 10 hotels.
The hotel rates are actually rather low in Paris right now. The reward night rates are lower too for several of the 18 hotels in the reward tiers shown above for fall stays in Paris.
18 Choice Hotels in Paris from July 1-September 15, 2013.
- 16,000 points = 6 hotels.
- 20,000 points = 4 hotels.
- 25,000 points = 8 hotels.
Comfort Hotel Davout Nation Paris 20 is the one hotel that drops to 12,000 points in the fall season. This hotel is located between CDG airport and the Eiffel Tower. One of the closest attractions is Pere-LaChaise Cemetery, the graveyard for Jim Morrison (The Doors), Marcel Proust, Sarah Bernhardt, Honore de Balzac, Moliere, Oscar Wilde and Richard Wright. This is reported to be the most visited cemetery in the world.
Comfort Inn Davout Nation Paris 20 is 88EUR ($108) or 12,000 points for October 9, 2013.
Points value for reward night = $9.00/1,000 points.
Comfort Hotel Mouffetard/Latin Quarter drops to 20,000 points September 16.
Sep 10, 2013 = 135 EUR ($181 USD) or 25,000 points. Points value for reward night = $7.24/1,000 points.
The rate is the same October 10-12 at 135 EUR after the reward night cost drops to 20,000 points per night. This hotel now offers $9.05/1,000 points value.
The Daily Getaways in June had an offer for 40,000 Choice Privileges points at $150. I purchased 152,000 points that day for under $600.
The redemption values in Paris makes 150,000 points purchased for under $600 worth about $1,400.
Nordic Choice Club Hotels
An interesting facet of Choice Privileges is Scandinavia has a separate hotel loyalty program with Nordic Choice Club. Choice Privileges members will not earn points for hotel stays in Denmark, Norway and Sweden along with a few other northern European countries. You need to join Nordic Choice for earning points on paid stays in Scandinavia.
Choice Privileges has a disclaimer on its Earning Points webpage:
Earn points at over 5,500 Choice Privileges locations in the U.S. (including U.S. Territories), Canada, Europe, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and Australasia.*
* Excluding Brazil, China, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, India, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden and including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Papua New Guinea and Fiji.
The good news is Choice Privileges members can redeem points for hotels in the Nordic region countries and this is often a high value redemption for reward nights in places like Oslo, Stockholm and Copenhagen. These high income economies are some of the most expensive cities on the planet. Even better is the geographic coverage of Choice Hotels located throughout the Nordic countries with 172 hotels available for reward nights with Choice Privileges points.

Nordic Light Hotel = 2,405 SEK = $370.98 USD

Nordic Sea Hotel = 1,830 SEK = $282.29 USD

Oslo, Norway
One of the hotels I passed by frequently during my stay in Oslo last March was a Clarion across from the central train station.
Clarion Hotel Royal Christiania = 16,000 points or 2,040 NOK = $343.27 USD
Redemption value = $21.44 per 1,000 points.
Clarion Royal Christiania Hotel is down the street from Radisson Blu Plaza Oslo where I stayed in March 2013 using Club Carlson points to save $300 per night. Seeing all the Choice Hotels in Oslo motivated me to load up on Choice Privileges points during the June 2013 Daily Getaways sale. There are 20 Choice Hotels in the Oslo area of Norway.
Choice Privileges points can have great value in Europe. Daily Getaways sold points for under $4 per 1,000 points on one day in June 2013, but that offer will likely not come around again until next April or May 2014.
You can only buy up to 20,000 points each calendar year at Choice Privileges for $11 per 1,000 points. This is what made Daily Getaways such a good offer.
Choice Privileges also routinely runs a stay two times and earn 8,000 points promotion. The current promotion offer expires tomorrow. This recurring Choice Privileges promotion can be a good way to book inexpensive stays in the USA and earn points.
