Baseball-Theme Topics for Contest Stories

1) Baseball as America’s Pastime:Don’t limit yourself to just professional baseball games that you’ve attended; think about summer pick-up games you played as a kid, or your child’s participation on their high school team, or a story that a parent told you about a player you wished you’d had a chance to see.

2) The first time something new happened:Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in 1947, becoming the first African-American to play for a professional baseball team. Do you have a baseball story with a “first” in it?

3) Overcoming adversity:As the first African-American professional baseball player, Jackie Robinson represented an American triumph over an unjust system. Does your baseball tale involve overcoming the odds?

4) Hall of Famer in action:With his incredible on-field performance and his historic career, Jackie Robinson was a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Do you have a story about seeing or meeting a historic player?

Picking the winners

  1. Thanks for making us aware of this contest! 🙂 Free points are always good! There aren’t really that many stories posted yet…it might turn out to be decent odds for someone who’s a good writer with a good story to tell.

  2. I’m a finalist! go figure.

Just wanted to thank you for bringing this to my attention. got my 1,000 points for 2 stories and, now, i just found out i’m one of the 10 finalists. good for another 7,000 points. they’re devalued marriott points but… still, 8,000 free points is, well…. 8,000 free points!

both my stories are true and i wrote each in under 15 minutes. what’s odd to me is that the first story i wrote is, imo, waaayy better than the second. but, it’s the second one that is a finalist. if it was the first story, i’d think i would have a chance to win. but it’s the second one, so very unlikely imo.

anyway, thanks again and (shameless plug), if you’re feeling charitable, feel free to vote for my story…
