Once in a Blue Moon

Boutique hotels comprise much of the art deco district of Miami Beach. Buildings of rich colors and curved shapes line the streets of Collins Avenue and Ocean Drive in restored properties originally built in the 1930s and 40s.

As I studied the lines of their faces, I photographed the architecture and realized most of the buildings are boutique hotels.

A sign caught my eye.

The sign under the street number address reads Autograph Collection. A Marriott property amongst all the small boutique hotels on Collins Avenue?

Blue Moon is one of two Autograph Collection properties in Miami Beach. Winter Haven is a few blocks north on Ocean Drive.

The hotel is comprised of two separate side-by-side buildings. The Fix is the lobby restaurant and a pool is in back.

Part of the Blue Moon Hotel is in this adjacent building.

Blue Moon is a recent addition to the Autograph Collection of Marriott. Currently the hotel is a hefty Category 7 at 35,000 points per night.

Blue Moon Hotel has three floors, 71 rooms and four suites.

Winter Haven is another Category 7 Marriott Autograph Collection boutique hotel with 71 rooms.

Ritz Carlton South Beach is in the same neighborhood. The property has beach front location where tourists stroll by gawking.

Ritz Carlton South Beach is a Tier 4 hotel at 60,000 points per night.

All these Marriott properties are located in close proximity to the beach.

We’ve stayed at the Blue Moon before! Very nice location in the middle of SoBe. The only thing I found weird was their shower. It has no curtain and only half of it is blocked by glass so it makes for a very messy bathroom after you’re done.

First of December stayed at Blue Moon for a week. The ADA room & bathroom very comfy, though the antiquated elevator may be difficult for large electric wheelchairs (making the similar but updates Winter Haven a potentially more functional choice for wheelchair users). Top notch staff at check in. Great prompt valet parking & baggage handling. FIX cafe food really tasty tho service in cafe a little uneven. The hotel & area are noisy so keep that in mind for a longer stay. Tho I’m platinum, they forgot to credit points for my stay so always check!

    HI Ric,

Thanks for your insights – we enjoy

Going to apply for the CC cards soon – a couple of Q’s first:

    1. How to ensure that I get the top 80K premier Gold one – we have credit scores > 750, and are paid on time ?

    2. can my wife & I combine our points for an award booking ?

    3. I there an expiration – like must redeem the bonus night within one year – we plan for Feb 2014 ?

waggera – Points can be transferred free from one account to the other with just a phone call, but you might not want to. You may be able to take better advantage of the “last night free” aspect of the Club Carson card by booking seperate stays in a row. That way 4 nights could just cost you 2 night’s points, rather than possibly 3.

I’ll leave the rest for Ric. I don’t want to poach too much.

    Hi Ric
Just wondering if you have picked the winners for those spg points?

  • Ric Garrido January 14, 2013

I posted the winners were selected on each of the giveaway posts.

All the winners were notified and submitted their information for the prizes. I might receive something from the St. Regis Bal Harbour winner about her travel plans.
