Westin New York Grand Central opens (former Helmsley Hotel) and special rate offer

Westin New York Grand Central held a grand opening celebration last week after a $75 million renovation. The new hotel has 774 rooms and a 3,000 square foot workout center which far exceeds the size of the small workout rooms I saw last month at Westin Times Square and W Union Square.

Big wigs like Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Starwood executives along with hotel owner executives from Host Hotels attended the ribbon cutting.

Ben Folds Five played a private performance at the hotel as an SPG Moments member opportunity.

  1. I stayed there at the tail end of the renovation. They did a fantastic job transforming the old Helmsley into a Westin. And definitely a primo location!

Also, I was only SPG Gold at the time (have since qualified for Platinum) and they were very deferential to my status and upgraded both me and my business partner
