Hilton’s Hampton Inn Facebook page has a promotion, “Watch, Share, & Earn” to earn 500 points for watching a 3 minute video. The video is actually uplifting to see what looks to be a pre-teen or young teen boy with cerebral palsy called TJ Elevator Fan who has a passion for riding elevators.
For the 500 points:
- Like the Hampton Inn Facebook page.
- Watch the video on TJ Elevator Fan. It is cute and touching. Good job Hampton.
- Leave a comment and register your account number for 500 HHonors points.
TJ Elevator Fan reminded me of my first teaching job with a 5th grade class in the very small town of Penobscot, Maine. A student moved into town with cerebral palsy that kept him in a wheelchair and created a speech impediment that generally kept me from being able to understand his words. The kids were incredibly supportive of our new classmate.
Another real connection I made through TJ Elevator Fan’s story is how my wife and I were astounded to realize many of the Maine kids we were teaching had never seen an elevator or escalator by the age of ten.
A field trip to see a museum turned into a fascination with riding the 3-floor elevator up and down as an amusement ride for these rural children in a town that only had buildings with stairs.
Hampton Inn might not be an aspirational hotel stay for many readers, but I try to keep in mind that hotel stays, any hotel stay, is a luxury most people do not get to experience frequently, if ever at all.
