Marriott Rewards Fall 2012 MegaBonus Sep 15-Jan 15

Marriott Rewards announced its 2012 Fall MegaBonus promotion running from September 15 to January 15, 2013 on FlyerTalk July 31. Registration is required by October 31.

Promotions are individualized with several different offers. An interesting part of the announcement is this statement (I placed in bold font below) from Marriott Concierge, the hotel chain representative on FlyerTalk:

Visit your personalized MegaBonus page to register for your unique offer by October 31, 2012 for paid stays (using any payment method) made between September 15 and January 15, 2013, at over 3,600 participating Marriott properties around the world. Promotional offers are specific to each individual Rewards member, and as a reminder, promotional offers may not be switched.

Watch for more information and official terms and conditions starting July 31, 2012 at and safe travels!

Here are five different targeted offers listed by FlyerTalk members to date:

1. Earn 3 Free Nights (Category 1-4 hotels)

  • 1 free night certificate earned after every two stays.
  • Free night certificate valid for category 1 to category 4 hotels and expire one year from issuance.
  • Maximum 3 free night certificates during promotion.

2. Earn 2 Free Nights (Category 1-5 hotels)

  • 1 free night certificate earned after every two stays.
  • Free night certificate valid for category 1 to category 5 hotels and expire one year from issuance.
  • Maximum 2 free night certificates during promotion.

3. Earn 40,000 bonus points:

  • 25,000 bonus points after 15 paid nights
  • +15,000 bonus points after 20 paid nights.

4. Earn 50,000 bonus points:

  • 35,000 bonus points after 20 paid nights
  • +15,000 bonus points after 25 paid nights.

5. Earn 50,000 bonus points:

  • Earn 5,000 points every second stay.

My thinking is infrequent guests of Marriott Rewards will receive Offer #1 for a free night category 1-4 certificate, up to 3 free nights after 6 stays.

There are mixed results reported by members trying to change their targeted promotion.

One of the main features I’d like to point out is I was able to register for the Marriott MegaBonus promotion as soon as it was announced. Hyatt Gold Passport announced their fall promotion yesterday on FlyerTalk beginning September 1, but currently there is no live promotion registration page.

I am looking forward to this Marriott MegaBonus, since I have a trip to Spain next month and Marriott has about 90 hotels in Spain with their acquisition of AC Hotels.

I can bunny hop my way through Marriott brand hotels in Spain and the prices look really low for many of the AC hotels. I am looking forward to trying out the free mini-bar privilege.

Here is a Loyalty Traveler reader comment from a stay at an AC Hotel in Spain.

We are staying in the AC Hotel in Vigo, Spain right now. The free mini bar includes water, sodas and beer. No snacks. There is no separate executive lounge, but the lobby lounge area offers a full cocktail bar which is also free.

Free night certificate is valid for 12 months from issuance. Some members may have been targeted with a different bonus points offer. Loyalty Traveler post August 3, 2012. […]

  1. Here is what I received

Earn triple miles beginning with your 2nd stay at any of 3,600+ participating Marriott® hotels. With the world’s most distinctive array of hotel brands, you’re always on the road to something amazing.

    See Details
To earn triple miles, stay at any participating hotel between July 1 and October 31, 2012.
Earn triple miles with any participating airline partner , beginning with your 2nd stay.

  2. That is the standard promotion for Marriott Rewards miles earners.

Your account needs to be set to earning preference for points to see the Fall MegaBonus offer.

  3. The AC hotels in Spain are pretty decent. In Madrid, the AC Atochia and the AC Carlton in Madrid are among the cheaper hotels in Madrid and are only a couple of blocks from each other, so you can check out of one and walk a few blocks to the other. Both are convenient to the Atochia train station and fairly near the Renia Sofia and the Prado.

My cost for each hotel came to about 100 Euros per night after having a drink or two at the bar, and I got a free night certificate, so it really brought down my room rate average. Oh, and I think if you are a Marriott elite you will get some free beer in your minibar to go with the free Cokes and water.

  4. From one stay to another is it possible to swith between the Marriott 3x MegaMiles July 1-Oct 31, 2012 & the Fall MegaBonus promotion running from September 15 to January 15, 2013? If so when do you make the switch from points to miles, when you make the reservation or the night before the stay?

  5. I got offer 3 or 4 (can’t remember) which they always send to me. As usual, customer service switched me to offer #1, no problem.

  6. @BWE – I do not really know when you would switch your earning preference if trying to use both promotions. I think just before your stay would work, but if the hotel delays posting your stay, you might have switched back to points for the next stay when you want miles.

Probably better to ask the question at FlyerTalk or MilePoint where there are hard core Marriott members with more experience on those fine details.

  7. I would say no. You can possibly get an upgrade at a category 4 hotel, but the free night certificate is not going to be valid for booking a free night at a higher category hotel than shown on the certificate.
