Omni Hotels: an overlooked Daily Getaways discount

Omni Hotels has participated in the U.S. Travel Association/American Express Daily Getaways for all three years these spring months sales have been around. And all three years I see the Omni Hotels deal does not sell out during the Daily Getaways offers. That is a mystery to me?

Omni Hotels are a small independently owned hotel chain of about 50 properties in the USA. These hotels as a brand are ranked as upper-upscale in the 2012 STR US Chain Scales meaning the average rates are on par with brands like Westin, Marriott, Renaissance, Le Meridien, Hilton, and Hyatt.

Texas is the home base of Omni Hotels and there are more than a dozen properties in Texas. If Texas is your home base, then these offers are something you should consider now before you find yourself staying at a lower quality hotel in 2012 for the same price as one of these Omni deals.

Omni Daily Getaways Offer #1

2-night weekend stay for $190 ($171 with American Express)

  • Omni stay certificate is valid through December 30, 2012.
  • Reservation must be booked 14 days in advance.
  • Maximum purchase quantity = 1.

This price is only $85 to $95 per night depending on whether you use American Express to buy.  Since you do not have to pay hotel tax when using the Omni Hotels stay certificate, then this offer is equivalent to finding a room rate of about $75 to $85 per night before tax at the following Omni Hotels:

  • Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale, New Haven, Connecticut
  • Omni Jacksonville Hotel, Jacksonville, Florida
  • Omni Severin Hotel, Indianapolis, Indiana
  • Omni Majestic Hotel, St. Louis, Missouri
  • Omni Charlotte, Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Omni Austin at Southpark, Texas
  • Omni Corpus Christi, Texas
  • Omni Dallas Hotel at Park West, Texas
  • Omni Houston Hotel at Westside, Texas
  • Omni San Antonio Hotel at the Colonnade
  • Omni Charlottesville Hotel, Virginia
  • Omni Newport News Hotel, Virginia

I have not been to any of these hotels personally so I will check out some statistical data on two sample hotels.

Omni Charlottesville Hotel, Virginia

Tripadvisor.com rank = #4 of 31 hotels with 241 reviews and over 200 reviews are Very Good (108) and Excellent (94).

Random date checks: I tried 3 different weekends in July through October and the lowest rate each weekend was $279 per night before tax for a 325 sq. ft. room.

Omni Charlottesville looks like a hotel where the weekend stay certificate is a fantastic deal if you can find availability. Of course there is no guarantee the hotel will be available for the dates you want. You might want to call the hotel directly before you buy this offer and ask if the certificate will be accepted for your weekend dates.

Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale, New Haven, Connecticut

October 5-7, 2012 = $219 per night before tax.

TripAdvisor.com rank = #4 of 12 hotels in New Haven, CT. Reviews indicate hotel was recently renovated.

Omni Daily Getaways Offer #2

Friday or Saturday Night at Omni Berkshire New York (Manhattan) = $275 or $247.50 with American Express payment.

TripAdvisor.com rates this hotel as #53 of 429 NY hotels. 453 out of 839 hotel reviews for this property rate it “excellent”.

Sample room rates:

Saturday, June 23, 2012 = $330.48 after tax (AAA rate).

Saturday October 20, 2012 = $412 after tax.

This could be a discount on a one night stay in NYC at a hotel you know will be good or you can always try your luck with Priceline and Hotwire.

Omni Daily Getaways Offer #3

Omni 2-night Weekend Escape for $280 or $262 with Amex.

  • Friday or Saturday check-in.

This offer works out to finding hotel rates at about $115 to $125 per night before tax for 12 different hotels.

  • Omni Tucson
  • Omni Interlocken Resort, Broomfield, Colorado (between Denver and Boulder)
  • Omni Hotel at CNN Center, Atlanta, Georgia
  • Omni Royal Crescent Hotel New Orleans
  • Omni Hotel at Independence Park, Philadelphia
  • Omni William Penn Hotel, Pittsburgh
  • Omni Austin Hotel Downtown
  • Omni Dallas Hotel
  • Omni Fort Worth Hotel
  • Omni Houston Hotel near the Galleria
  • Omni Mandalay Hotel, Dallas
  • Omni Richmond Hotel, Virginia

I have been to the Omni Interlocken Hotel in July when people were basking in the bright Colorado sun poolside and the BBQ was cooking and drinks at the pool bar were flowing. This is a fun place to be.

Omni Interlocken sample rates:

July 20-22, 2012 total is $277 after tax (AAA rate).  Perhaps a different date.

October 12-14, 2012 = $257 after tax.

Here is an example where the DailyGetaways rate is not really a savings.

Omni Hotel at Independence Park, Philadelphia

October 12-14, 2012 = $689 after tax (AAA rate) for 2-night stay.

June 22-24, 2012 = $689 after tax (AAA rate) for 2-night stay.

TripAdvisor.com ranking = #9 of 83 hotels in Philadelphia.

Bottom Line: There are some great savings to be found at Omni Hotels in several major cities for weekend travelers. Only one of the four Omni Hotels offers sold out in Daily Getaways. The three offers detailed here still have certificates at the time of posting.

Psst….the Omni William Penn is in Pittsburgh, not Philly.

@SEE – obviously I don’t see too well after the International Pow Wow 2012 closing night party at the JW Marriott Los Angeles with Nikka Costa, Earth, Wind & Fire and DJ Rooney G closing out the night.

    Thanks for the correction.

I have been to the Omni William Penn in Pittsburgh and it is a very nice hotel, however, right in the business district, which is probably not ideal for a weekend stay.

The big negative for me was the mysterious “blackout dates apply” in the T&C. My husband stays a lot an an Omni for business and we’ve had one heck of a time redeeming all the free nights we’ve amassed because of their dreaded blackout dates. We actually travel both to Charlottesville and New Haven (alma maters for grad and undergrad) and find that a lot of those weekends are blacked out when UVA or Yale has some event…graduation, parents’ weekends, reunions, etc.

I was looking at the Omni deal with the Philadelphia hotel because I will be attending a wedding in a few months and they have room block there, but I was concerned about the black out dates also. I checked into with Omni, and sure enough, my dates were not available. Glad I checked before buying.

Black out dates are the unknown. Always best to call the hotel directly if you have a specific date and place in mind and see what you can find out aout using the certificate before you buy one.

Ric – I have attempted to call the hotel to inquire about blackouts and availability for a weekend I would like to use the 2013 version of this certificate. I’m told they will need the codes of that particular certificate to see if they will work for the dates I want. So I contacted the Daily Getaways web site, and of course they will not give me the codes.

I think I can get the blackout dates out of the hotel, but not the “availability” part. Any thoughts on where I could get a definitive answer before I buy on this? Is a room “available” if it is not blacked out and there is a standard room for sale?
