La Quinta Inns and Suites are a large midscale brand with over 800 hotels in the United States, Canada and Mexico. La Quinta Inns operates its own independent hotel loyalty program. In April 2011 I profiled La Quinta Returns on Loyalty Traveler.

La Quinta Returns offers double points at about 50 hotels and triple points at new La Quinta hotels for check-in dates from December 12, 2011 through January 8, 2012. This is 20 points or 30 points per dollar.

About 80% of La Quinta Inns and Suites are in the lowest three tiers of a six tier reward system. Reward nights start at 6,000 points and go up to 24,000 points. $200 in hotel spend at a triple points property will earn 6,000 points.

La Quinta Returns Hotel Reward Tiers (April 2011 numbers)

• Tier 1 (6,000 points) =   49 hotels (6.0%)
• Tier 2 (8,000 points) =   279 hotels (34.5%)
• Tier 3 (11,000 points) = 328 hotels (40.6%)
• Tier 4 (15,000 points) = 119 hotels (14.7%)
• Tier 5 (18,000 points) = 30 hotels (3.7%)
• Tier 6 (24,000 points) = 3 hotels  (0.4%)

La Quinta has a resort reward option allowing members to redeem points for dozens of 4-star and 5-star partner hotels like Terranea Resort in coastal Los Angeles and beach resorts in San Diego. There are a dozen resort partner hotels in Florida too, like the Reach Resort in Key West.
