The first DoubleTree by Hilton hotel has opened in the Netherlands next to Amsterdam Centraal Station, the city’s main rail station. The 553-room hotel opened last June as a Mint Hotel. Mint Hotels are a small chain of eight hotels in the UK and Amsterdam being rebranded to DoubleTree by Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn hotels.
Each room in the DoubleTree Amsterdam Centraal Station features an Apple iMac TV and computer and internet is complimentary throughout the hotel. Rooms are designed with floor to ceiling windows.
The DoubleTree Amsterdam Central Station hotel has great reviews on TripAdvisor from its past six months as a Mint Hotel with 4-circles average rating from 239 reviews and ranked #39 of 345 Amsterdam hotels.
Great news with this hotel is it enters the system as only HHonors category 5 at 35,000 points per night compared to Amsterdam Hilton at category 7 for 50,000 points per night. Hilton Amsterdam is #25 on TripAdvisor and also has a 4-circle rating from 493 reviews.
The main complaint about Amsterdam Hilton is its distance from places in the city. As a person quite familiar with the layout of Amsterdam, I think the only thing the Hilton Amsterdam is not close to is the Red Light District and Centraal Station. The new DoubleTree Amsterdam Centraal Station will be quite close to both of these tourist locations.
And in my opinion the Red Light District is one of the least interesting places to visit in Amsterdam.
