B&Bs for Vets is a program in its fourth year offering military veterans in the USA and Canada a free night on Thursday, November 10, 2011Â at a participating B&B in honor of November 11, Veterans Day. Last year over 900 B&Bs participated.
I am passing this promotion on to eligible readers who might still be able to find an available room. Looking through a few B&B websites and some Google searches indicates many of the participating B&Bs had one or two rooms allocated for this offer and these were booked a month ago. B&B owner forums indicate once this promotion is publicized in a local news article the rooms go within a day for that area.
In Canada there is a website for participating B&Bs at bbcanada.com. Remembrance Day was a major deal when I was in Vancouver three years ago for the holiday, unlike the US where Veterans Day tends to be overlooked and often goes unrecognized as a holiday by the general public. In Canada the red poppy honors and symbolizes the sacrifice of so many.

Instructions for Vets:
- Vets – please contact the inns and B&Bs directly to reserve your room.
- Rooms are complimentary for Thursday, November 10, 2011 for vets and one guest; most rooms accommodate two guests only.
- Proof of veteran status may be requested.
- Vets – please note no fees will be charged for a reserved one-night veteran’s stay but a credit card may be required to book your stay. Credit card or cash may be accepted for add-ons and additional nights. While policies vary from inn to inn, the full rate may be charged if the complimentary room night is not occupied or not canceled in a timely manner according to the inn’s standard reservation practices or cancellation period set for this special event. Please be considerate if your plans change; most inns will have a waiting list for their complimentary rooms, and a proper cancellation will always be filled with a fellow deserving vet.

Select Registry, Distinguished Inns of North America joins B&B For Vets to honor the men and women of the armed forces with an offer of complimentary accommodations, Thurs., Nov. 10, the night before Veterans Day. This year, Select Registry inns in 24 states across the U.S. have signed on to mark the day of observance by providing complimentary rooms to service members. Many of these properties are including other perks too like discounts on spa services, dining and local activities.
Last year, more than 900 properties across North America participated in B&B For Vets, a program conceived in 2008. The free night’s stay is good for active and retired members of the armed forces. To participate, service members must show a valid military or Veterans Administration ID. Inns are offering one or more complimentary rooms available to vets and one guest on a first-come-first-served basis. Members of the military should contact B&Bs directly to reserve their room.
