    Interesting – I would like to have made a reservation for a Summerfield Suites for Apr 8 for a business trip, but the prepaid, nonrefundable, nonchangeable aspect kills it for me. You never know when business plans will change.

    Our small company in the Bay area just arranged for our frequent long distance (Southern CA to SF) commuters to stay at a local Marriott for 30% off their usual rate. (so in order to reach elite on my other programs, I’m going to have to search a little farther to find similarly-priced hotels!)

    Perhaps coincidence, but I think hotels must be feeling a lot of pain from the economic slowdown.

    I avoid nonrefundable rates whenever I can find a suitable alternative. Every time I have lost a nonrefundable room was due to a flight delay.

    The hotel economy is hurting. I’ve picked up the Hyatt Highlands Inn – Carmel on a free night award for a weekend stay twice in the past three months on my first try.
