Another summer deal I see today are ticket prices around $500 round trip for LAX to Rome for travel late July and August with Oneworld Airlines through both American Airlines tickets and British Airways AARP discount tickets.
The limiting factor here is the return date needs to be in mid to late August for lowest fares. The July departure itinerary I show is 25 days.

Looking over Loyalty Traveler airfare deals from 2017 revealed March 2017 was a great month for cheap summer travel tickets to Europe. There are several deals I see today for July-August travel from California to Rome, Milan and London.
Travel mid-June through July tends to be the most expensive dates for USA to Europe flights. Lower fares are generally found by flying before June 15 and after August 15. The June 15 is fairly standard with ticket prices rising steadily from mid-June into July. August dates for when low fares return is more flexible and can happen earlier than August 15. But low fares I see for travel from California today allow earliest returns after August 15.
My main point being ticket prices available today for Los Angeles to Rome at $500 round trip for July and August departures are far below average ticket prices based on the past few years of summer fares.
