IHG PointBreaks hotels list posted today for reward night stays at 5,000 points per night for stays from July 31 to October 31, 2017. There are many opportunities to buy points at $6 per 1,000 points or even less, so this is essentially a list of hotels you can book for $30 per night.
Personally, I am disappointed with the hotels offered for Europe. Last week I had a wonderful 3-night stay at Holiday Inn Brno, Czech Republic for 15,000 points. I earned 35,000 points from a $59 hotel night in Warsaw, Poland in June. Clermont-Ferrand or Zilina, Slovakia are the only two European hotels that might fit into my travel plans. I passed through Zilina, Slovakia while on a bus on Christmas day 2016. The town looked like an industrial eyesore from the bus, but lovely mountains and castles nearby. In central Europe I learned not to judge a city by first visual impressions.
The possibility of a U.S. road trip across the eastern states to Florida routed through PointBreaks towns is something I have wanted to make over the past several years, but that is a secondary travel plan to getting back to Europe in the next few months.
Planning travel around loyalty deals is a good way to reduce travel expenses. I am currently at Radisson Blu Edwardian London Heathrow ($110 rate) scheduled to fly to San Francisco in 6 hours. This hotel stay earns my second Free Friday with the last hotel night of my current 21 day trip.
