My $75 IHG Priceless Experiences MasterCard turned into 20,000 points

This morning I realized that I never received the $75 MasterCard I earned from last winter’s IHG Rewards Club Priceless Experiences Mastercard promotion.

Loyalty Traveler – Mastercard Priceless Surprises earn $50 to $100 Reward Card after 2 IHG stays Dec 1-Feb15 (Nov 16, 2016).

I qualified for a $75 MasterCard after a 2-night stay at Hotel Indigo Krakow in December and one night at Holiday Inn Krakow in January.

IHG Priceless Experiences email-1

On March 6, I received an email stating my $75 MasterCard would come in 4-8 weeks.

But it never came.

IHG Rewards Club customer service kept me on the phone for about 45 minutes this morning as the matter was researched.

In the end, the customer service agent said the promotion redemption period had ended and it would not be possible to get the $75 MasterCard.

“Would you accept points as a goodwill offer?”

“How many points?” I asked.

After several more minutes on hold, the reply came back.

“I can place 20,000 points in your account right now. Is that acceptable?”

I answered “Yes.”

IHG Priceless Experiences Goodwill Adjustment

IHG Rewards Club promotions are notoriously flawed. The first IHG Into the Nights promotion in 2014 awarded two free nights at any hotel for completing a set of member targeted tasks. I saw my promotion tasks completely change about six weeks into the promotion. No complaints from me since my second set of tasks were easier to accomplish with only two paid hotel nights, one at Dublin Airport and one at London Gatwick for $235 all-in.

To top it off, I ended up receiving 4 free nights credit I redeemed in 2015 for reward stays at InterContinental London Park Lane, InterContinental Paris Le Grand and InterContinental Boston.

Kelley and I stayed at InterContinental London Park Lane again last Friday night using my IHG Mastercard free anniversary night.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Warsaw for $58 two weeks ago to complete my current IHG Accelerate tasks with one hotel night to earn 33,000 bonus points.

Next month, I have four PointBreaks nights reserved in Europe for 20,000 points.

IHG Rewards Club is a loyalty program that keeps giving me good deals for hotel stays.

  1. IHG just became much more attractive to me given the 3-day cancellation policy that Marriott/SPG put in place across much of the east coast. Even in metro NYC/DC/Philly/Boston, many IHG hotels have same-day or 1-day cancellation windows (with the worst of them being 2-day).

  2. At least you got a more attractive offer when they changed your tasks. When I completed my tasks for the accelerate bonus, I screenshotted my task list and sent in a request for the points. I received a note saying I hadn’t completed enough tasks and when I checked the list, they had changed the tasked required. When I called and asked for a manager they admitted everything but said that the task list was wrong and it now what it should have been originally (three weeks before the end of the offer). I got half of the points that I should have got as an attempt to fix it.

While I like the program, this left a bitter taste in my mouth.
