Three Stockholm Hotels at 10,000 Choice Privileges points per night

a building with lights on

There are two Clarion Hotels in Stockholm, Sweden at 10,000 Choice Privileges points per reward night with Clarion Hotel Sign and Clarion Stockholm. In this post I describe features of both Stockholm city center hotels and Quality Inn Stockholm Arlanda Airport, also a 10,000 points reward night hotel.

My siren call for Choice Privileges points is their value in Scandinavia for reward nights at Nordic Choice Hotels. The lowest priced airline tickets for my travels to Europe from Monterey, California tend to be flights to or from Stockholm, Sweden and Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose. I have flown through Sweden, Norway and Copenhagen 7 times in the past year.

Each overnight transit through these airports has involved a reward night priced from 8,000 to 12,000 points at a Nordic Choice Hotel using Choice Privileges points for hotels that are nearly always over $150 USD per night.

Important Note: 191 Nordic Choice Hotels participate in Choice Privileges for reward nights booked using Choice Privileges points, however, to earn points for paid stays at these Nordic Choice Hotels requires joining Nordic Choice Club, an independently operated loyalty program from Choice Privileges.

Norway (94 hotels) and Sweden (87) hold the bulk of Nordic Choice Hotels. Denmark (5), Finland (3), Latvia (1) and Lithuania (1) are other countries with Nordic Choice Hotels.

5 Stockholm hotels at 10,000 Choice Privileges points

I have stayed at three of the Nordic Choice Hotels in the Stockholm area at two city Clarion hotels and Quality Inn Arlanda Airport hotel.

The intrinsic value of Choice Privileges points in Stockholm is the cost to buy 10,000 points is $110 through the Choice Hotels website. Choice Privileges members can buy up to 50,000 points in a calendar year at the rate $11 per 1,000 points.

Nordic Choice Hotels mostly remain the same points reward rate price year-round, unlike most Choice Hotels reward nights with seasonal and even weekday/weekend variable reward rates.

Points Plus Cash points acquisition

Choice Privileges points are even cheaper to buy at $7.50 per 1,000 points through Points Plus Cash reward stays, if you have 6,000 points in your account.

With 6,000 points you can book a one night reward stay at a higher category hotel paying a nonrefundable rate of $7.50/1,000 points for points needed beyond the 6,000 points redeemed.

For example, to book a 16,000 points hotel reward night using Choice Privileges Points Plus Cash rate requires 6,000 points + $75 per reward night.

If you cancel the reward reservation, the 6,000 points redeemed per reward night are deposited back into your account, along with the 10,000 points you bought for $75.

A maximum 250,000 points can be purchased in a calendar year for Points Plus Cash reward stays.

Clarion Hotel Sign Stockholm

The location of Clarion Hotel Sign is the most convenient hotel in Stockholm city for transportation to airports. Hotel Sign is about 300 meters from Stockholm’s Arlanda Express train station for the fast 20 minute airport train. Single person round trip ticket is 280 SEK ($31.83) one way, 540 SEK ($61.39) round trip. There are discount prices for 2 persons at 350 SEK one way ($39.80 USD for 2) on certain days and seasons.

I generally take Flygbussarna for Stockholm Arlanda transportation at 99 SEK ($11.26 USD) each way for a 50 minute journey between city and airport. Bus service frequency is every 10 minutes. Flygbussarna operates from floor level above Arlanda Express station.

Flygbussarna operates transportation to all Stockholm regional airports. The photo above is the bus from Stockholm Skavsta Airport NYO. This is the airport with Ryanair and Wizz Air flights.

Clarion Sign bed

Clarion Hotel Sign standard rooms are basic rooms with typical Scandinavian simple, yet elegant design style. The rooms with a park view are preferable. The interior view around the central open space for the hotel offers no views, except walls of hotel.

Breakfast is complimentary at all Nordic Choice Hotels.

Clarion Hotel Sign has a rooftop pool and spa complex.

Clarion Stockholm City

Clarion Stockholm room

A ‘freeway runs through it’ is not the industrial impression I mean to convey with my Clarion Stockholm Hotel room photo. The hotel is located next to a city swimming pool complex and a nature trail along the island waterfront for a couple of miles for walking around Sodermalm island. The hotel is a wonderful city location for entertainment and exercise and quick 5 minute metro ride from Stockholm Central Station.

Quality Airport Hotel Arlanda, Arlandastad, Sweden

Quality Airport Hotel Arlanda is an airport in a small shopping mall location about five miles from the terminals. Unfortunately, the mall is not a thriving location and the major supermarket moved out in late 2016.

This means you only have a couple of dining options unless you have a car with the hotel restaurant, a fast food grill adjacent to the hotel and a McDonald’s across the parking lot. There is a large store with some market food items and soda in the mall, but not a real supermarket with a large variety of food.

I only recommend Quality Airport Hotel Arlanda if you do not have the time or do not want to spend the money to go into Stockholm city at a price tag of $23 or more per person round trip.

Stockholm Arlanda

Stockholm Arlanda Airport

I have stayed in Stockholm city at Clarion Stockholm or Clarion Hotel Sign on my last three trips through Arlanda Airport.

Arlanda Airport is the primary international airport for Sweden with flights from USA and other global regions, including most airlines within Europe. Stockholm also operates Bromma Airport BMA (Finnair to Helsinki and domestic flights) and Skavsta NYO (Ryanair and Wizz Air European flights).
