Choice Hotels Choice Privileges Hotel Rate Discounts Paris

Analysis of Choice Hotels in Paris spring deals

There are about 20 Choice Hotels in and around Paris and more in other cities around France. Through April 27, EU resident members of Choice Privileges earn 12,000 points every two stays. US residents earn 8,000 points every two stays.

Loyalty Traveler – Choice Privileges 8,000 points every 2 stays March 2-April 27, 2017   (Feb 24, 2017).

Average paid rates for hotels in Paris are around 80 EUR per night with a range from 59-144 EUR and only 2 of 17 Choice Hotels in the Paris area priced over 100 EUR per night (117 and 144) for a midweek night in April.

This spring season shows Choice Hotels in Paris offer both low paid rates and low reward rates with 10 hotels in central and suburban Paris at 12,000 points per night or less.

Combine low rates at Paris hotels with Choice Privileges current promotion for 8,000 points (or 12,000 points for EU residents) after 2 stays and you have the potential to earn the equivalent of $30 to $45 per night as a points rebate on room rates under $80 per night.

Personally, I find I get this type of value with Choice Privileges points as someone frequently needing rooms in Scandinavia due to all the low fare tickets between northern California and Norway, Denmark and Sweden.

In this post I show the potential for earning Choice Privileges points on low priced hotel stays in Paris with the simple strategy of changing hotels every night. This can be as simple as using only two Choice Hotels and alternating back and forth each night for one stay credit and 8,000 points every 2 nights. Or bounce around the city to different areas. There are 8 Choice Hotels with city of Paris addresses.

One night stays maximize the value of this deal, but most travelers to Paris probably don’t want to change hotels every night.

Here is how I would play this Choice Hotels Paris hotel stay strategy, if traveling with a partner who can also earn 8,000 or 12,000 points for 2 stays. Stay 2 nights in same hotel with one night under each person’s name in a separate one-night reservation. I have done this many times over the past 20 years when traveling with my wife and there were good promotions based on number of hotel stays (not number of hotel nights).

I book one night and my wife books the next night at the same hotel under our different member accounts. I earn the hotel loyalty promotion bonus for night 1 and she earns the hotel loyalty promotion bonus for night 2. Change hotels and repeat. After 4 nights, 8,000 Choice Privileges points for my account and 8,000 points for her. 12,000 point each for European members of Choice Privileges,

Tell the hotel you want the same room for both reservations.

Simply let the hotel know that you are staying 2 nights with one night under each person’s account to earn the Choice Privileges 8,000 points bonus offer for 2 stays. Ask for the same room to be booked for two nights, while making it clear you want to keep two different reservations under each guest’s name.

The hotel does not have any reason to care that you are maximizing the Choice Privileges promotion, so no reason not to tell them why you are two different Choice Privileges members who are staying together at the hotel and booked two different reservations for one night each in each one’s name. Say you want the same room for the 2-night stay.

There is generally no issue if you only stay 2 nights at a hotel. It can be a little more tricky if you stay at the same hotel 4 or 6 nights doing this same thing of alternating reservations between the two same guests. It should still work, but you might find a gung ho employee wanting to simplify the paperwork or a hotel manager feeling you are gaming the system and your separate reservations end up merged. I have had this happen to us on past stays too.

The Value of Choice Privileges Points

While I cannot talk knowledgeably about the specific Choice Hotels in Paris, I can show the value of 8,000 or 12,000 points earned after two relatively inexpensive hotel stays in Paris.

One night stays at Comfort Hotel Nation Pere Lachaise Paris and Comfort Hotel Paris La Fayette earn 8,000 or 12,000 points, depending on your member residence.

Two hotels I have stayed at in 2017 when traveling through Copenhagen and Stockholm for flights to and from California are Clarion Collection Hotel Temperance in Malmo, Sweden and Clarion Hotel Sign in Stockholm.

Clarion Collection Hotel Temperance Malmo is located in Malmo, Sweden, a city across the Oresund Bridge from Denmark and about a 25 minute train ride from CPH airport.

Two features of this hotel make it a great airport transit value hotel deal for me when passing through Copenhagen. It is only 8,000 points per night and being a Nordic Choice Hotel in the Clarion Collection brand means it serves both complimentary breakfast and dinner buffet. That is a good value in high priced Sweden.

Clarion Malmo

Clarion Hotel Temperance is about ten minutes walk from Malmo train station in a central tourist location near the oldest square of the city.

Clarion food schedule

Clarion dinner

8,000 points at Clarion Collection Hotel Temperance Malmo buys a room night.

Wednesday May 3 = 8,000 points or 6,000 points + $15.

Clarion Malmo May 4 8K

That is quite a deal considering the published rate = $158 that date.

Clarion Malmo May3 paid rate

Two hotel nights stayed at Choice brand hotels in Paris earn 8,000 points or 12,000 points as an EU resident and can be achieved for 150 EUR ($159.11 USD).

Paris and Sweden at an average hotel cost of 50 EUR per night is the kind of deal that has me looking at Choice Hotels in Paris.

Just curious if you have ever engaged in the “change hotels every 2 nights” scheme with your wife?

I know Paris pretty well and some of those hotels in that list are far from any action.

The thought of packing up, checking out, transporting luggage up and down metro train steps, the metro ride itself, the walking to and from metro stops, the checking in at a new hotel, the unpacking—all this is at least 2 hours of your time. And don’t forget the research itself into which of these hotels are in a favorable/safe area—well, all this is way too much trouble.

You recently told a cautionary tale about a bad travel experience with your spouse….beware of getting into hot water again with this new idea of yours!

@bluecat – Done this many times with my wife, although I thought of this Paris scheme as a solo adventure. I like Montmartre area with a couple of cheap hotels.

In Australia 2003 we stayed at 5 different Starwood Hotels for 2 nights each using this scheme of alternating nights. We both earned 50,000 bonus Starpoints for 5 paid hotel nights. 4 of 5 hotels made us switch from the SPG Platinum member suite I received to a lower category room with her SPG Gold elite status. Four Points Sydney let us keep the huge suite 2 nights. We stayed at 2 hotels in Melbourne, 2 hotels in Sydney and Sheraton Noosa in Queensland for 3 nights.

Kelley did not mind the hotel and room changes in Australia when she redeemed her 50,000 Starpoints for 6 nights at The Pulitzer Amsterdam six months later.

In terms of practical travel, the main point is not bouncing around Paris hotels for 8,000 or 12,000 points. That is simply a possibility for someone like me who does not mind bouncing around a city to stay in different areas. I learn more about a place that way.

Choice Hotels are all around Europe for earning stays, outside Scandinavian Nordic Choice Hotels not participating. No reason to bounce around every night, unless you have a reason to pick up points.

I’ve stayed at the LaFayette location. They usually put you in an attic small room where you can touch the walls with both arms outstretched. You have to turn sideways and inhale to get into the shower door. The mattress is very soft thick foam and hard to get out of. Otherwise, the TV, linens, etc were fine but better to go one room category up. The location is great, between the Gare du Nord/Est and the Grande Boulevards.

My favorite 8K hotels are the Clarions in Prague.
