Club Carlson 2-for-1 and 4-for-2 Gold elite booking links gone

a screenshot of a website

Looks like this day could be a really bad news story for Club Carlson Gold and Concierge elite members. As someone who has just spent the last four nights in Prague and Wroclaw on Club Carlson Gold elite 2-for-1 rates, I am disappointed to report that the booking sites for Club Carlson 2-for-1 and 4-for-2 rates at hotels in Europe, Middle East and Africa now show this webpage.

Club Carlson 2-for-1 link gone

The page you are looking for cannot be found. It may no longer exist or has moved to a new location.

• You can still check rates and availability

• Visit the Club CarlsonSM Home Page

My hope is the 2-for-1 and 4-for-2 rates are simply being moved to another location, but I will not bet on that.

Since the Carlson hotel chain was bought out by a Chinese company in April 2016, there have not been many noticeable changes to Club Carlson loyalty program. If this elimination of the 2-for-1 and 4-for-2 elite weekend booking rate discount is truly gone, then that is a big blow to the value of the Club Carlson hotel loyalty program.

The primary value of Club Carlson to me this past year has been the hotel rate discounts with 2-for-1 and 4-for-2 weekend discount rates as a Gold elite member by virtue of being a Club Carlson Visa card member. That is really the only value I see in keeping the credit card since the free reward night on points stays of 2 or more nights ended in 2015.

My two nights in Prague cost $44 per night and my two nights in Wroclaw were $41.50 per night with the 2-for-1 discount rate. I have saved thousands of dollars using these Club Carlson discount hotel rates over the past few years.

I have another 20 or so nights booked in 2017 with these 50% off cash discount rates. I found Club Carlson’s 2-for-1 and 4-for-2 special rates offer to be the best value for Europe hotel stays of any loyalty program, even better than IHG PointBreaks since they could be booked many months in advance. I booked my reward stays for July 2017 hotel stays months ago.

I hope this is simply a Club Carlson changeover to a new webpage. But I won’t hold my breath waiting to see if these 2-for-1 and 4-for-2 weekend discount elite rates return. They were a great deal. In the hotel industry, most great deals tend to go by the wayside.

Update: Reader comments indicate these Club Carlson elite member discount rates are confirmed as discontinued.

Ric, I have one of these (4 for 2) coming up at the Radisson Blu Prado (Madrid) this spring. a fantastic value. basically a 50% discount. if these rates have been removed, and this isn’t just a computer glitch, this will indeed be the final year that the Club Carlson card remains in my wallet, as I agree that access to these rates is far more valuable than the remaining perks of the card.

I have taken advantage of this deal in the past and now it’s possibly gone, I’ll be super disappointed in Club Carlson from now on. Time to rethink about their credit card in my wallet.

Ric, it was through your blog that I learned of this discount, and found it to be a valuable benefit. The 2-for-1 and 4-for-2 rate was the primary reason I continued to pay the annual fee for the Club Carlson Visa card with US Bank. Without this benefit, is it really worth paying $75 each year for 40,000 Club Carlson points? Possibly not. 70,000 points gets you one night in London, Edinburgh or a handful of other high-priced cities, but I don’t necessarily visit those cities every other year. If they don’t re-instate this rate, I hope they offer something new for Gold members. Suggestions for Gold: 3-for-2 rate, plus increased access to points + cash nightly rates.

“I have another 20 or so reward nights booked in 2017 with these discount rates. “. Is this 2 for 1 rate for cash price?

  • progapanda January 30, 2017

I’ve confirmed this with Club Carlson on Twitter, both rates are gone for good. They said the offers were targeted and “underutilized.”

I’m done giving any revenue stays to the program after all the shenanigans Club Carlson has pulled in the past year.

@yy – thanks for correction. Indeed these are not reward nights, but paid nights. I booked Club Carlson 2-for-1 and 4-for-2 rates for half the hotel nights I have reserved for five weeks in Europe in February, March and July 2017.

@propaganda – thanks for the confirmation. Sad news to read.

By the way, I drank at a cool pub in Prague named Propaganda last weekend in Nove Mesto (New Town) on the night of my ten mile walk as the entry in my ‘drink in a pub in different districts of Prague’ tour.
