An email from SPG today highlights ten new properties in the Design Hotels brand of Starwood Hotels. Seven of these hotels are in Europe. One in Vienna caught my eye since I will be there in September and again in December. Three of the six Vienna Starwood Hotels are in the Design Hotels brand with a category 3, 5 and 6 hotel.
I checked Das Triest, the category 3 hotel to find reward nights for 7,000 points on some dates I plan to be Vienna, but no Cash & Points and 164 EUR room rates. Looks like a good deal. Then I saw they are doing construction work on the hotel annex. I have to investigate that issue more through TripAdvisor.
Do & Co Hotel Vienna, Austria
The Vienna hotel in today’s email is Do & Co Hotel Vienna. This is SPG category 6 hotel at 20,000 or 25,000 points per night. That high SPG redemption rate kind of makes it this central location hotel No & Can & Do reward night redemption for me.

101 Hotel Reykjavik, Iceland – SPG Category 6
101 Hotel Reykjavik rates here are serious Icelandic big cash prices with $500 to $700 per night starting rates on a couple of dates I checked. Makes 20,000 points per night seem reasonable on a points redemption rate.
Blakes Hotel London – SPG Category 6
The area of Blakes Hotel is in South Knightsbridge and near Chelsea. The hotel is only 10 minutes walk from Gloucester Road Underground Station and less than 15 minutes to South Kensington Station. These are Piccadilly Line stations on the direct route to London Heathrow Airport.
Blakes Hotel website says French community of London centered in area. Only about 10 to 15 minutes walk to Victoria & Albert Museum and Natural History Museum. Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park expansive green space are past the museums. The other direction is the River Thames about 10 minutes walk to the Chelsea Embankment. This sounds like an area I would enjoy. This part of London is more residential than the more tourist-dense areas a couple miles east where most major brand hotels are located in London.
Advance purchase rate is 162 GBP ($214 USD) for a date I checked in December or 20,000 points for a reward night.
LOISIUM Wine and Spa Resort Südsteiermark, Ehrenhausen, Austria
This LOISIUM Wine and Resort Spa Südsteiermark in Ehrenhausen, Austria seems attractive to me due to its remote southern Austria location near the border with Slovenia. When I researched Slovenia earlier this year I did not find too many western chain brand hotels. Looks like the kind of place where a car and 28,000 points provides a relaxing location from where you can explore Austria or Slovenia and within 50 miles are Croatia and Hungary.

The website appears to not yet allow bookings for this hotel. I kept getting no rooms available for any date I tried, even into 2017.

Sense Hotel – Sofia, Bulgaria SPG category 3 is 68 EUR or $77 per night May 12-14, 2017
StandArt Hotel, Moscow, Russia SPG category 4 is 11,600 RUB or $179 per night May 12-14, 2017
Rooms Hotel, Tblisi, Georgia SPG Category 3 is $180 per night if you are under 29. Seriously, the lowest rate is a promotional rate for persons under $29 and includes breakfast. The rate is $10 more for old people. Love the name for its simplicity. Rooms Hotel says it all.
Hotel St. Paul – Montreal, Canada SPG Category 4 is $290 CAD ($225 USD) per night in May 2017. This appears to be another hotel with website booking glitch. Message says to call SPG for award night availability.
Rosas & Xocolate, Mérida, Mexico SPG Category 5 is $208 per night May 9-11 or 12,000 points.
Laluna, St. George’s, Grenada SPG Category 6 is $348 per night May 9-11 for Cottage Suite with 904 sq.ft. room or 20,000 points.
My checks of Cash & Points availability failed to find any C&P awards at any of these Design Hotels.
