I decided to check out what kind of deals are around today on WOW Air flying out of Los Angeles after writing the piece on WOW Air’s new policy for a free 22 lb. carry-on bag. WOW Air is now what I refer to as the ‘tiny packer’ budget airline. The limitations to no WOW Air bag fees are the small bag dimensions allowed for the free carry-on. Traveling at 22 lb. light is plenty of weight for many travelers, but fitting that 22 lb. of stuff into a 17-in x 13-in bag will be your real test for how the ‘22 lb. bag flies free’ changes impact your total WOW Airlines ticket fees. Still, with two bags allowed for free with an additional, smaller size 17-in x 8 x 8 bag means you have far more potential for getting onto a WOW aircraft carrying two free, regulation-size bags and enough personal stuff to travel to Europe.
Loyalty Traveler – WOW Air now allows free 22 lb. carry-on bag, but can you pack that small?
After flying WOW Air in July 2015 I have not written too often about their low ticket prices since the cost for carry-on bags and seat assignments meant the low advertised fares were always at least $100 more and around $250 more if you required both a paid carry-on bag and a paid checked bag.
Now it looks like it is reasonable for some ‘tiny packer’ travelers to fly to Europe on a low cost ticket without having to shell out another $100 to $250 on bag fees.
WOW Air
Los Angeles LAX – Reykjavik, Iceland KEF – Paris CDG – KEF – LAX
$398.99 round trip Tue Oct 18 – Tue Oct 25
If you are not a tiny packer, then your best deal is pay $154 for one checked bag to Paris and back and carry two small regulation-size bags on board for free.
WOW Air LAX – Paris CDG ticket price with one checked bag increases $153.98 on a round trip ticket.
$552.97 round trip.
$553 round trip LAX to Paris is still a good fare on WOW Air, but with patience and alertness, those kinds of fares for LAX-CDG come up regularly throughout the year on American, Delta, United and their alliance partners.
But $399 is a great WOW Air LAX to Paris tiny packer round trip fare.
