Star Alliance/Oneworld Milan/Rome to USA $400 Sep-March 2017

Another one of the low fare deals available today are cheap flights from Milan and Rome to airports across the USA for around $400 round trip for departures from September through March 2017 with Oneworld and Star Alliance airlines.

While these fares are only available for travel starting in Italy, the option to use frequent flyer miles one way or buy a low fare one-way ticket with Norwegian or Wow allows a US resident to take two or three trips to Europe from some some cities where the cost to fly to Rome or Milan is 2x-3x the $400 ticket price from Rome/Milan to USA.

See my earlier post from this morning for examples of using Norwegian and RyanAir for cheap positioning flights to most anywhere in Europe.

Similar fares from Milan to USA. This makes open jaw itineraries possible with flights from Milan or Rome to USA and return to other city in Italy or some other city in Europe with similarly low fares. I show an example in this post flying from Rome, Italy to Los Angeles in September with an open-jaw ticket from LAX to Madrid, Spain in November for $393 round trip on American Airlines.

American Airlines Rome FCO – London LHR – Los Angeles LAX – London LHR – Milan MXP

$406.18 USD (363.47 EUR)  Sunday Sep 25 – Sat Nov 19 (Rome trip in September and back to Milan, Italy for Thanksgiving)

You can ticket an open-jaw Rome to Denver for September and return Denver to Venice for Thanksgiving for $509 round trip on British Airways.

British Airways  Rome FCO – London LHR – Denver DEN – London LHR – Venice VCE

$508.99 (455.47 EUR) round trip  Sun Sep 25 – Sat Nov 19

FCO-DEN-VCE $509 BA Sep25-Nov19

The price for Denver – Venice at Thanksgiving is $1000 round trip with SkyTeam and $1,200 Oneworld. You can book two trips using these low fares for less than one trip at Thanksgiving.

United Airlines Rome FCO – San Francisco SFO

$417.00 (373.16 EUR) round trip Sat Sep 24 – Sat Nov 19

FCO-SFO $417 UA Sep 24-Nov19

There are low fare deals to several countries in Europe making open-jaw itineraries to different countries another possibility.

For example, here is Rome to Los Angeles in September with return flight in November to Madrid.

American Airlines  Rome FCO – London LHR – Los Angeles LAX – Dallas DFW – Madrid MAD

$393.06 (351.73 EUR) round trip open jaw  Sat Sep 24 – Thu Nov 17

FCO-LAX-MAD $393 AA Sep24-Nov17

These are just a few examples of some incredible deals making all kinds of European vacation itineraries possible.

Really, 2 months stay required to say a few dollars. I will pass.

Are you in Europe or USA?

You can fly to Usa and back in same week. The deal for US residents is the ability to fly from Europe to Usa, then return back to Europe 2-4 months later.

    For example:

Fly LAX to Rome in Sep on miles.

Fly Rome to LAX after a week in Italy.
Fly LAX to Spain in November.
Fly second $400 open-jaw ticket from Spain to LAX in Nov with return to Amsterdam in February.

Do this enough times and you can potentially save 50% on airfare.

This is strategy for travelers wanting to make multiple trips to Europe. I have used this ticketing strategy five times this year for travel to Amsterdam, Sweden, Norway, Copenhagen, Lithuania, UK, Poland. I have a return to London/Norway in September and come back from Austria on my next $490 ticket with Christmas flight to Vienna.

Try getting a cheap ticket to Europe at Christmas from USA.

That few dollars savings is like $1000 on my ticket.

Thanks for this article. My nephew will be studying in Milan this next year and this will allow him to come home for a week without costing an arm and a leg.
