American Airlines Amsterdam Denver DEN Europe Frankfurt FRA

AA, FI, DL, UA $641-$702 Denver to MUC, FRA, AMS, MAN, CDG Sep-Oct

Denver is another airport with competitive fares to Europe in the mid to upper $600s from mid-September and October travel with American, Delta, United. There are even lower fares in the upper $500s and low $600s to be found with Icelandair, but far fewer available dates.

American Airlines/OneWorld

  • Denver – Munich $656 (Sep 26 – Oct 29 about 20 dates)
  • Frankfurt $660 (Sep 17 – Oct 28 most dates)
  • Amsterdam $660 (Sep 19 – Oct 29 most dates)
  • Paris $699-$702 (Sep 17 – Oct 28 most dates)
  • Manchester $702 (Sep 17 – Oct 24 most dates)

Delta Air Lines / SkyTeam

  • Denver – Munich $656 (Sep 18 – Oct 20 all dates)
  • Frankfurt $663 (Sep 17 – Oct 20 nearly all dates)
  • Amsterdam $656 – $660 (Sep 17 – Oct 20 all dates)
  • Paris $697 (Sep 17 – Oct 20 nearly all dates)
  • Manchester $702 (Sep 17 – Oct 20 all dates)

United Airlines / Star Alliance

  • Denver – Munich $641 – $656 (Sep 17 – Oct 20 all dates)
  • Frankfurt $646 – $663 (Sep 17 – Oct 20 all dates)
  • Amsterdam $653 – $660 (Sep 17 – Oct 20 all
    dates)
  • Paris $689 – $701 (Sep 17 – Oct 20 all dates)

Low fares from Denver, Minneapolis and Seattle are all airports with Icelandair service. The competition with Icelandair has created a bit of a fare war in recent weeks from these cities, in addition to the frequent sales we are seeing from Washington DC, New York and Chicago.

Icelandair

Icelandair has low fares to many of these same cities, but far fewer departure dates than available with the big three airlines. One big advantage of Icelandair is the option to book a free stopover in Reykjavik. There are no bag fees for two checked bags and no seat assignment fees you find with other low cost carriers.

Dates are hard to pick, since prices vary wildly depending on length of trip. Below are low fares I found on some dates.

  • Denver – Munich $619 (Oct 3, 5, 14, 17, 18, 20)
  • Frankfurt $625 (Oct 4, 12, 14, 16-20)
  • Amsterdam $659 (Oct 2, 4); $675 (Oct 13, 20)
  • Paris $676 (several dates, but really depends on length of trip)
  • Manchester $588-$663 (trips longer than 14 days tend to have lowest fares).

The hotel is nice. Friendly staff, outdoor pool, nicely furnished, relatively easy access, fitness room in separate building outside beside pool. Typical HIX breakfast.

Only complaint is elevators were so slow that I took stairs most of time. Four floors and I was on floor 3 and my room was at end of hall across from stairs.

I found it easy to find with iPhone maps and easy to get out.

Since I was driving US 98 the location was fine. I don’t know how far it is from beaches since I came in from I-10 direction.

    5,000 points well spent.

I am busy in New Orleans with U.S. Travel Association IPW conference and I don’t know when I will get around to writing rest of road trip report for Sweet Home Alabama, Gulf Islands Mississippi and New Orleans 9th ward and more.

Another week before I am back in California.
