Icelandair Boston to Paris $435, London $490 with free Iceland stopover and low United fares to Germany

Icelandair offers Boston to Paris for $435 round trip or London for $490 round trip for travel departures from Sep 15 to Dec 8. There are several other cities in the $400s and $500s. Yesterday, I wondered if low United Airlines and Delta fares from Chicago, New York and Washington were an attack on each other or an attack on low Icelandair fares? Today I see low fares on United and Delta from Boston and Minneapolis, two other cities with low Icelandair fares. United/Lufthansa/Swiss offer  several competitive fares from Boston to Frankfurt and Munich, Germany, Zurich, Switzerland and airports in Scandinavia and Finland. These fares indicate Icelandair may be the real target and primary reason for low fares from BOS, MSP, ORD, EWR/JFK and IAD in this latest fare war for Europe.

Icelandair has a big advantage over the other Iceland airline WOW Air operating from Boston Logan Airport. Icelandair allows free stopovers in Iceland on any fare. I state free, but I generally find the ticket price goes up about $15 to $20 when a stopover is added compared to a simple round trip. Icelandair also allows free carry-on, two checked bags free and no charge for seat assignment. Those fees generally add up to more than $100 per ticket with WOW Air.
