San Francisco has been one of the major airports participating in the fare war between American, Delta and United. American and Delta are attacking United/Lufthansa with low fares across Germany. Flights to Germany are rarely part of fare sales. American has Munich and Frankfurt on sale from SFO. Delta and Air France have many more airports across germany on sale in the upper $600s and low $700s for travel from November 2016 to March 2017.
The average fare from SFO to Munich or Frankfurt is generally in the high $800s when tickets are on sale. The major alliance airline most consistently offering lowest fares to Germany is Turkish Airlines, Star Alliance, with fares frequently in the mid-$700s for much of the past year. Now and again there will be a deal with Air Berlin through American Airlines, but not too frequently. Germany is the European country where I find the fewest low fares from California.
As part of the current fare war for Europe for flights November 2016 to March 2017, a battle between American/British Airways and Delta/Air France/KLM over low fares to Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich are tackling United and Lufthansa. Munich is down to $681 round trip and Frankfurt is $693 with American and $698 round trip with Delta. Delta has the low fare to Berlin at $720, but American at $738 is not too much more. Delta with Air France and KLM partner flights has the lowest fares to several other German airports like Stuttgart STR $672, Dusseldorf DUS $677, Hamburg HAM $715, Dresden DRS $728.
This is a look at one country among the many European countries with fares in the $500s and $600s during the current sale from San Francisco to Europe launched by a fare war started last Friday between Delta, United and American. I think one of the best deals you can purchase in this current sale is an American Airlines ticket to Munich or Frankfurt at a price in the upper $600s, or Delta to a secondary German airport. These are low fares not too commonly seen from San Francisco for flights to Germany.
