Cannes Film Festival is May 11-22. Last year I went to Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. Hyatt points and a suite upgrade gave me a great hotel stay in Park City. There were so many free events happening around town and lots of free alcohol to keep me entertained on the cheap all day long in Park City during the festival.
I found great hotel deals in Cannes when I mistakenly set hotel search dates for May instead of September. High room rates caught my eye and soon I realized that I was looking at hotel rates during the Cannes Film Festival next month. Even more insightful was seeing hotel reward night availability at several places where hotel points return great value compared to the published rates during the film festival.
I won’t be in Cannes, France in May. You probably won’t be there either. Still, check out these hotel rates and reward night opportunities during Cannes with Marriott Rewards, IHG Rewards Club and Choice Privileges.
The usual hotel suspects for points and miles travelers in Cannes are likely InterContinental Carlton Cannes, Grand Hyatt Cannes Hotel Martinez and JW Marriott Cannes, and Radisson Blu 1835.
Grand Hyatt Cannes Hotel Martinez

JW Marriott Cannes
JW Marriott Cannes is a Marriott Rewards category 9 hotel reward at 45,000 points per night. TripAdvisor rank #15 of 132 Cannes hotels.
My initial searches were for a 4-night stay. Marriott gives 5th night free at no additional points when booking a reward stay. The dates for JW Marriott Cannes were changed from Thursday to Wednesday night arrival May 18 – 23 for 5-night stay at the end of Cannes Film Festival in this rate check. All other hotels compared used 4-night stay.
180,000 points is quite a deal for five nights at JW Marriott Cannes during the film festival for only 36,000 Marriott Rewards points per night. The prevailing room rate is 959 EUR ($1,085 USD) per night.
Radisson Blu 1835 Cannes
Radisson Blu 1835 Hotel Cannes is a category 7 hotel at 70,000 points per reward night. TripAdvisor ranking #10 of 132 Cannes hotels. There is no reward night availability at this hotel during Cannes Film Festival, except Sunday, May 22. Room rates May 19-23 are $571 USD per night.
Club Carlson has no reward night availability at Radisson Blu 1835 during Cannes Film Festival dates.
IHG Rewards Club
While the InterContinental Carlton Cannes would be a delightful 5-star place to stay during Cannes, you need a Martin Scorsese budget for the room rate or 60,000 IHG Rewards Club points per night for a standard room. There are actually standard room reward nights available at IC Carlton for the final weekend of Cannes.
There are only 39 suites at IC Carlton. One of the classic scenes I loved from the TV series Entourage is when the crew went to Cannes Film Festival and Johnny Drama learns the IC Carlton lost his reservation. I read a TripAdvisor review from 2010 from a person who stayed at the hotel for the last weekend of Cannes paying 700 EUR per night and said the room was similar to Johnny Drama’s tiny closet room.

May 19-23, 2016 final weekend of Cannes Film Festival = 60,000 points per night or 801.54 EUR ($903.08 USD) per night.
Another of the partner hotels for Cannes Film Festival is Holiday Inn Cannes, where you can still book a standard room for $205.78 or a junior suite for $284.60. Reward nights are not available for May 19-23, but there are standard room reward nights for 20,000 points per night for Saturday and Sunday May 21-23 when the room rate is $163 per night. The junior suite rate is lower for Sat-Sun at $259 per night.

Choice Privileges in Cannes
Choice Privileges points are a currency I state are worth gold in my pocket for certain destinations in Europe. While Nordic Choice Hotels in Scandinavia are one of the great places for Choice Privileges points, another destination with plenty of Choice is France. There are some incredible value opportunities with Choice Privileges points if you need a hotel for Cannes Film Festival May 11-22, 2016.
Clarion Suites Cannes Croisette is one of the partner hotels in Cannes for the Cannes Film Festival.
Clarion Suites Cannes Croisette is available for 16,000 points per reward night or 6,000 points + $75. The property is ranked on TripAdvisor #46 of 132 hotels in Cannes and receives 4 of 5 circles in guest reviews.
Sometimes there are different room categories available with Choice Privileges points. There is the option May 19-23 to select a Junior Suite Quuen for 16,000 points. This room has a $534 per night room rate May 19-23. Or select the Queen Superior Suite for 16,000 points per night. Room rate for Superior Suite is $725 per night.
I bought 104,000 Choice Privileges during the Daily Getaways sale three weeks ago for about $430. The Clarion Suites Cannes Croisette provides an opportunity to trade 64,000 Choice Privileges points for $2,900 in room rates with a 4-night stay for the Cannes Film Festival.
That is an example of why I try to accumulate as many Choice Privileges points as I can. There are some terrific value opportunities at certain Choice Hotels in certain places at certain times of the year.
