IHG Rewards Club 2016 hotel category changes affect 400 hotels out of 5,000 hotels globally. 200 hotels go up and 200 hotels go down in reward points cost for one free night on Feb 17, 2016.
The changes are not all bad, just mostly bad since the most desirable high end hotels around the globe are rising 20%. On the positive side, 200 hotels drop in cost, however, the majority of these hotels are currently 15,000 or 20,000 points and dropping to 10,000 and 15,000 points. Here are hotel lists by points category for IHG hotels decreasing category on February 17.

There is only one hotel currently in the top 3 points category of 40,000; 45,000 and 50,000 points that will have a lower reward night cost for 2016: InterContinental Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Down to 35,000 points = 1 hotel InterContinental Sao Paulo, Brazil (5,000 points decrease).
Down to 30,000 points = 11 hotels (all 11 hotels drop 5,000 points)..
Down to 25,000 points = 44 hotels (all 44 hotels drop by 5,000 points).
Down to 20,000 points = 27 hotels (all 27 hotels drop 5,000 points).
Down to 15,000 points = 67 hotels (all 67 hotels drop 5,000 points).
Down to 10,000 points = 50 hotels
(12 hotels drop by 10,000 points and they are all in China; 38 hotels drop 5,000 points).
