    Yay!

My family travel experience, is considerably enhanced by Platinum. Considering that I have almost zero business travel, and my wife has very little, we would never get any status. Except maybe Silver from the CC. Got Platinum in mid 2014 thanks to a long family road trip and the Platinum Challenge, bending our plans slightly to hit Marriott products for any overnight stop.

We do have some Marriott stay points, plus I transferred some Chase points over to get 40K. I was positioned hoping this would come around again.

Just got off the phone, extended to January 31st, 2017. If we can keep doing this every year it would be awesome.

    Thanks!

If you had been offered gold status as a trial in early 2015 (Jan-Feb timeframe), would that allow you to do a buy-up to gold?

    IMB – call and check.

Vicente – Platinum seems like a good deal for 40,000 points if you plan to spend enough nights to get value from additional benefits. A few nights staying at a resort can make it worthwhile or several nights in hotels on road trips.

Marriott Rewards elite status has given me some nice upgrades in hotels over the years and I have never even reached Platinum level.
