Any ticket priced under $900 from California to South Africa is a good deal. A ticket to Durban is even a better deal since Johannesburg JNB is generally the only airport with sub-$900 fares with an occasional sale to Cape Town CPT.
One aspect of the flight itinerary that concerned me, bsides 30 hours flying economy class and DVT concerns, is the ADD-LAX is a single flight number with a stop in Dublin. I figured the flight distance earning miles is reduced from ADD-DUB-LAX to only ADD-LAX.
Checking the flight miles difference between these routes revealed an interesting data point.

Qatar Airways for OneWorld and American Airlines AAdvantage Miles
OneWorld Alliance airline member Qatar Airways is the fare that caught my eye initially for LAX to Durban DUR. Fares from $952 are available for departures on Tuesday and Sunday from January to March 2016.
