InterContinental San Diego is coming to San Diego in a little over two years in the form of a new build 19-story, $218.7 million hotel financed by Chinese investors. The new InterContinental San Diego will be a 400-room hotel.
The San Diego waterfront site called Lane Field, a former stadium site for the Padres minor league baseball team nearly 60 years ago, is one that will also see a joint SpringHill Suites and Residence Inn by Marriott hotel complex open in early 2016. The same construction firm for the InterContinental San Diego built the 17-story Marriott hotels.
The last time San Diego had the luxury InterContinental brand was in 1987. The former InterContinental hotel building was a Doug Manchester development (as in Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego) on the waterfront and is now Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina.
