Choice Privileges points can be used for more than 500 Preferred Hotels & Resorts reward nights on points. These Choice Privileges partner hotel rewards are priced from 30,000 points to 60,000 points per reward night. You need to be logged into your Choice Privileges account to see the nightly points rate for Preferred Hotels & Resorts when using the link above.

Preferred Hotels & Resorts as a hotel chain is kind of like the precursor to big chain brands for independent hotels like Marriott’s Autograph Collection, Hilton Curio Collection, and Starwood’s Tribute Portfolio.

The Pulitzer Amsterdam

The Pulitzer Hotel Amsterdam caught my eye due to this hotel having been part of Starwood from the beginning until 2015. I first stayed at The Pulitzer in 2000 using 40,000 Starpoints for a 5-night stay, when SPG charged 10,000 points per night for this hotel with 5th night free. The hotel is located between two historic Amsterdam canals, Prinsengracht and Keizersgracht, constructed during the 17th century. Rows of old townhouses facing these canals were converted into a city center hotel, down the street from Westerkerk and the Anne Frank House.

Check Availability on the Choice Privileges Preferred Hotels link shows a calendar with available reward night dates, however, reservations using Choice Privileges points must be booked by phone.

Pulitzer calendar

Wide open No availability at Pulitzer Amsterdam for nights using Choice Privileges points. (See my comment about color blindness confusion when I posted this bad example for availability calendar.)

Earning 50,000 Choice Privileges takes as few as 12 nights at different Choice Hotels in the USA on one night stays during the periodic promotions for 8,000 points after two stays. Average $80 per night and $960 spend earns a free night at The Pulitzer. That is a 33% rebate on hotel spend for a hotel with published rates around $320 per night.

Choice Hotels has no properties in the Netherlands. Choice Privileges partner rewards with Preferred Hotels & Resorts helps expand the locations where Choice Privileges points can book a room.

Montage Beverly Hills

California and New York have several member hotels in Preferred Hotels & Resorts with luxury hotels like Montage Beverly Hills. This hotel is 60,000 points per night using Choice Privileges. Room rates are regularly over $500 per night. This is a property where your points will get over $10 per 1,000 points in redemption value.

Montage Beverly Hills

There are opportunities to buy Choice Privileges points for $7.50 to $8.50 per 1,000 points. One way is Choice Privileges Points Plus Cash stay reservations when you can pay $7.50 per 1,000 points at time of booking to complete the reservation. You need 8,000 points in your account per reward night and then you can buy remaining points. You keep the purchased points if you cancel the Points Plus Cash hotel reservation. But Points Plus Cash is not an option for Preferred Hotels & Resorts reward nights.

Another way to acquire Choice Privileges points are bonus points opportunities like the 30% bonus points promotion running through November 24 for buying 65,000 points for $550. There might be savings to buying points for some hotels in Preferred Hotels & Resorts, but probably not many real deals for hotels priced at 60,000 points like Montage Beverly Hills.

My best value for Choice Privileges points is Scandinavia

Personally, I find too much value in Choice Privileges points for hotel stays in Scandinavia at Nordic Choice Hotels to spend points for higher priced Preferred Hotels & Resorts.

I have redeemed 8,000 points for a place like Hotel Temperance, a Clarion Collection property in Malmo, Sweden, some 30 minutes by train from Copenhagen CPH Airport. This is a $60 hotel night when buying Choice Privileges points through cancelled Points Plus Cash reward stays. Complimentary dinner for two at Hotel Temperance is worth close to $60 based on Malmo restaurant prices.

The Thief Oslo, part of Choice Hotels Ascend Collection at 20,000 Choice Privileges points is a good value stay for a luxury hotel. The Thief is a hotel with regular room rates priced over $400 USD.

Spending 30,000 to 60,000 Choice Privileges points per night offers many high end hotels around the world for stays. The primary impediment is earning that many Choice Privileges points as a midscale hotel traveler staying at Choice Hotels.

I’m sorry but are you sure Pulitzer Hotel has availability? The calendar is completely red which I believe means not available? … You can use the code CHOICE to search for availability for all Preferred Hotels.

@Sonya – I’ll trust you on the color coding. This is an example that illustrates my red-green color blindness. I thought every date showed availability.

You might be surprised at how many things I get wrong due to the choice of red and green as color symbols.

I should probably rewrite this article to replace The Pulitzer with another hotel offering reward night availability. I went back and checked and there is no availability for the Pulitzer in other months either.

I simply wanted to show Preferred Hotels & Resorts as a possibility with Choice Privileges points. Personally, I find poor value in Preferred Hotels redemption considering other high value opportunities for using Choice Privileges points at Choice Hotels, and especially Nordic Choice Hotels in Scandinavia.
