IHG Rewards Club Accelerate Sep 1–Dec 31 targeted offers

IHG Rewards Club fall 2015 promotion is Accelerate and has been announced for hotel stays from September 1 to December 31, 2015. Members have tasks to complete to earn at least 50,000 bonus points, similar to the Into the Nights and Set Your Sights offers of the past year.

Registration for IHG Rewards Club Accelerate promotion is open as of today, August 24.

Targeted tasks mean you have to register to learn about your specific IHG Rewards Club Accelerate promotion tasks for bonus points. Important to note: No retroactive credit for IHG brand hotel stays completed prior to Accelerate promotion registration.

 

Up to Two Free Nights for new IHG Rewards Club members

The big news is for newly enrolled members to IHG Rewards Club. Earn one free night at any IHG hotel worldwide after two eligible stays and earn a second free night after another two eligible stays.

This is a targeted promotion with specific offers for each IHG Rewards Club member. I looked over the FlyerTalk thread and there seems to be little overlap in tasks among members. These are really targeted tasks with some members having to book using their corporate code and some members, like me, having to make hotel stay payment with my IHG Rewards Club credit card.

My tasks for IHG Rewards Club Accelerate

1. One Stay for 5,000 points.

2. Five Nights for 6,800 points.

3. Three stays on Points and Cash for 3,600 points.

4. Pay for one IHG stay with IHG credit card for 1,500 points.

Complete 3 tasks for 33,100 bonus points.

Looks like my offer requires at 4 to 9 hotel nights and two or three hotel stays. I see that as highly achievable, although I have to buy 15,000 to 30,000 points at a cost of $120 to $210 to earn 50,000 bonus points.

As I have said for years, the fact that I infrequently stay on paid rates at IHG hotels generally gives me easily achievable tasks in these IHG Rewards Club promotions. I had over $1,000 USD in free hotel nights this summer with IHG Rewards Club on $235 in hotel spend in fall 2014.

Currently, I have ten hotel nights scheduled for IHG Rewards Club hotels in Europe over the next six weeks. I might jiggle my reservations a bit to take advantage of this promotion.

    My wife has a terrible Accelerate offer. She can earn 10,000 points with a one night stay in September and that will be the extent of her earning. She needs 6 nights to earn an additional 9,600 bonus points and she earns 3,000 bonus points for every three additional nights.

    She must stay 21 nights to earn the 30,000 bonus points and 61,600 total bonus points. That is not going to happen.

    Forgive my ignorance for this question, but are these offers stackable? (I called IHG reps and they knew nothing.) In other words, if you only wanted to go for the 6500 bonus points, could you stay one night and pick up offers #1 and #4 from your list by using the IHG credit card?

    @Ed – these are stackable tasks. That is how the last few IHG Rewards Club promotions worked. Last year, I completed four or five tasks with two hotel nights to earn two free nights during the fall 2014 Into the Nights promotion.

    wow. offers are pretty different.
    I have:
    5k/stay once
    6.8k/ stay 5 nights
    20.8K/stay at 3 brands
    6.4K/ stay at 2 holiday Inns
    1.5K/ Use IHG CC
    17K/ complete 4 offers

    but yes, confused about the math.
    you say you need 8 hotel nights, but couldn’t you accomplish all of those in 5 nights/4 stays?
    I would think I could accomplish mine with 5 stays/5 nights if they are stackable.

    @Stephanie – Five nights task requires paid nights and Points and Cash nights do not count since they are categorized as reward nights.

    A Stay is defined per IHG® Rewards Club Membership Terms and Conditions as one night or consecutive nights at the same hotel, regardless of frequency of check-in/out (“Stay”). A Stay constitutes a “Qualifying Stay” when member pays qualifying rates, which include most business and leisure rates at InterContinental®, Crowne Plaza®, Hotel Indigo®, Holiday Inn®, Holiday Inn Express®, Staybridge Suites®, Candlewood Suites®, EVEN®or HUALUXETM hotels worldwide.

    Bonus points are not issued for Non-Qualifying Room Rates or Non-Qualifying Stays. “Non-Qualifying Room Rates” or “Non-Qualifying Stay” include the following: any stay at a Kimpton Hotel, net wholesale individual and group rate, certain package rates, employee discount rate, friends and family rate, crew rate, special discounted contract rates, seasonal worker/crew rate, 50% travel club discount rate, travel industry discount rate, distressed passenger rate, IHG® Rewards Club Reward Nights/Airline Hotel Reward rate, rates booked through third party web sites, complimentary hotel Stays and any other rates not defined as a Qualifying Room Rate at IHG’s sole discretion.

    I look at the Points and Cash task as requiring three separate hotel stays with three nights, but those nights do not count for fulfilling the five nights task, The five nights need to be qualifying paid nights.

    I already have one IHG Points and Cash night booked for October.

    5,000 for one stay – 11,600 for 9 nights – 4,000 for stay with 4+ nights – 9,200 for 7 bonus package rate stays – 1,500 for credit card use – complete 4 of 6 for 18.7K

    One strange thing is they want me to complete 4 of 6 to get extra bonus, but only list 5 offers to do it – not 6. Same weird wording as yours.

    So I guess I’m 10 nights / 7 stays to get 50,000. I was hoping for better after a year and a half with no paid stays. I guess it’s a little better than my offers on the last couple of promos, which I skipped. I think I’m likely to skip this one also (maybe doing the one night on credit card for 6,500) , especially since a 4 night paid stay is not in the cards.

    I only have to accomplish three tasks to earn 33,100 bonus points. I can book five paid hotel nights and earn 46,400 bonus points. That looks like my best hotel stay strategy and not worry about Points and Cash nights, unless I actually need them. Otherwise i am spending more points than I earn.

    @Dan –

    I continue to be les than impressed by IHG marketing – this time it’s their math skills. Seems the 5 tasks is a default response (Ric and I both have 4 tasks, yet it says 3 of 5 tasks). My wife, who hasn’t recorded an IHG stay in years has 1 stay for 10k and 7 more ending with the “up to 19 nights” for the remainder. Their waffling and botching of prior promotions has me sitting out this time.

    @aegt – one of the tasks I saw mentioned by a member on FlyerTalk is booking stays using his corporate code. If you normally earn points on your corporate code, then they should count for this promotion.

    @james – These IHG promotions are hit and miss for me. Into the Nights is one I maxed out for me and my wife to earn four free nights. That was a fantastic return on investment with hotel stays at InterContinental London, IC Paris and IC Boston. The promotion itself with my tasks completely changing in October 2014 over one month after the Into the Nights promotion started.

    I did not earn any bonus points during the Set Your Sights and Share Forever promotions in 2015. This new promotion works out with my travel plans again.

    Into the nights was a reasonable promotion. If I recall it was 3 nights= 2 free certs. I have used the fre nights on $200+ per night places.

    These latter promotions will be unreasonable if there is any sort of account activity.

    One thing I found was odd…is seems like when I booked my free certs it somehow triggered some sort of points promotion where I earned around 2500 or so points.

    I continue to be unimpressed with the IHG targeted offers. Below is my offer for this promotion.

    1)Stay once get 5,000 points
    2)Stay more earn more 37,200 points for 29 additional nights
    3)A bonus weekend stay 4,000 points for staying a fri/sat or sat/sun combo of 2 nights weekend
    4)Corporate Account bonus 14,000 points for staying 11 nights with my corporate account (Which btw my corporate account is only valid at one hotel i frequent 2x a year; none upcoming this fall)
    5)Las Vegas Bonus 5,000 points for staying 2 nights at the Intercontinental resorts Palazzo or Venetian in Vegas between now and end of promotion. A search today finds NO OPENINGS between now and December 31 at all……
    6)Apply for the IHG card 2,000 points for applying for the IHG credit card
    7)Earn while you redeem 1,000 points for redeeming a reward night
    Your achievement bonus for completing 6 of 7 offers: 16,000 points
    Total possible: 84,200 points. However there’s two offers I definitely won’t complete; so I’m dead in the water….

    Why must IHG continually screw me in promotions??? I’m a Spire member and feel like they don’t care about me anymore because I already spend enough money with them…..

    Looks like one night booked with bonus points package and credit card spend will earn the IHG Accelerate bonus points.
