Delta Airlines and Skyteam partners dropped the fare for Los Angeles LAX to Johannesburg JNB to as low $845 round trip from $879 yesterday. San Francisco dropped to $867 from $896 yesterday. These are the lowest fares I have seen this year for this route.
Flight departures at $850 round trip begin next week and fares in the mid to upper $800s are available into late May 2016.
An all Air France itinerary LAX-JNB via Paris is around $904. Cape Town is about $250 to $300 more.
Other Alliances:
Star Alliance – Lufthansa/South African Airways LAX-JNB = $869 to $875 in late October and November. Fares are over $1,000 for 2016 dates.
SFO-JNB priced at $891 round trip for late October and November departure dates with Star Alliance carriers.
OneWorld – British Airways LAX-JNB $930 or $935 with few dates at that fare before November, but wide open for 2016 travel into May. British Airways SFO-JNB $952.
