Hacking Choice Privileges Reward Nights for Anaheim Disneyland

Disneyland Anaheim Choice Privileges Reward Nights

This week I will be at Disneyland Anaheim. I decided to check reward night options in Anaheim and I found some great value for Choice hotels in the vicinity of Disneyland.

Choice Anaheim-1

Quality Inn & Suites Maingate = $139 or 16,000 points. After tax room rate = $163.80. Redemption value = $10.23 per 1,000 points.

Comfort Inn & Suites Anaheim = $139 or 20,000 points. After tax room rate = $163.80. Redemption value = $8.19 per 1,000 points.

Quality Inn & Suites Anaheim Resort = $124 or 12,000 points. After tax room rate = $145.08. Redemption value = $12.09 per 1,000 points.

The Value of Choice Privileges Points Plus Cash Rewards

In 2015, Choice Privileges added the option of points plus cash rewards. You need at least 8,000 points in your account to book a Points Plus Cash reward night.

No points, no problem.

Choice Privileges members can buy points at the rate of $11.00 per 1,000 points, up to 50,000 points in a calendar year.

Buy Choice Privileges Points for $11 per 1,000 and then book Points Plus Cash reward nights, buying points for $7.50 per 1,000 points.

How you can build your Choice Privileges account balance quickly with points:

Buy 8,000 Choice Privileges points for $88.00. Points will post within 24 hours to your account.

Use your 8,000 points to book a Points Plus Cash reward night. A reservation at a higher points reward hotel is one that will allow you to buy more points at the rate of $7.50 per 1,000 points.

Comfort Inn & Suites Anaheim is 20,000 points per night.

Choice Anaheim Comfort Inn Points Plus Cash

With the 8,000 points bought for $88 through Choice Privileges, you can book the 20,000 points Comfort Inn for 8,000 points + $90.

Follow the math and you have now paid $178 for a room that only cost $163.80 to pay for in the rate comparisons above. What is up?

The deal is you then cancel the Comfort Inn Anaheim reward night and you keep all the points you purchased. You now have 20,000 points in your account for $178 and you have saved $42 on the $220 standard rate to buy 20,000 points at $11.00 per 1,000 points.

You can book another Points Plus Cash reward stay at a different hotel.

Quality Inn & Suites Anaheim at the Park is 16,000 points per night. Points Plus Cash rate is 8,000 points + $60 per night.

Choice Anaheim Quality Inn at the Park PPC rate

You now have spent $178 for 20,000 points. You have sufficient points to book two nights for 16,000 points + $120 at the Points Plus Cash rate.

Book this reward stay and cancel it.

Summary of Choice Privileges 0 points to 36,000 points for $298

1. $88.00 to buy 8,000 Choice Privileges points

2. Book 20,000 points hotel using Choice Privileges Points Plus Cash Rate and buy 12,000 points for $90.

3. Cancel reward night reservation and you have 20,000 points.

4. Book Quality Inn Anaheim for two nights on Points Plus Cash rate for 16,000 points + $120.00.

5. Cancel reward stay and you have 36,000 points.

6. Total cost = $298.00 for 36,000 points.

Redemption options for Choice Hotels in Anaheim

Choice Anaheim 4 nights rate

Quality Inn & Suites Anaheim Resort – 4 nights

32,000 points + $120 for 4 nights. You have now spent $418 on Choice Privileges points.

Is it worth it? Here is the room rate for this 4-night stay.

A higher category room 2 Queen Beds Efficiency is available at Points Plus Cash reward rate. The room rate is $808.47 after tax for a 4-night stay.

Your cost is $418 for a $390 savings on the published room rate.

Choice Anaheim Quality Inn Resort

Quality Inn Placentia Anaheim 8,000 points per reward night.

You can only use Points Plus Cash for hotels over 8,000 points per reward night. Using the method shown for acquiring Choice Privileges points with Points Plus Cash reward nights means you can buy 8,000 points for $88 and then pick up another 24,000 points for $180. You will have 32,000 points after spending $268.  Four nights at Quality Inn Anaheim Placentia, about 3 miles from Disneyland, are yours for 32,000 points. Your nightly rate is $67 per night all-in.

You might think an 8,000 points reward night hotel has to be ghetto. The Quality Inn Placentia-Anaheim received 4 of 5 circles on TripAdvisor.com and is ranked higher than Marriott Residence Inn and Best Western in Placentia.

Choice Anaheim Placentia

Quality Inn Placentia-Anaheim room rate is $523.60 after tax. You can get this same room for $268 buying Choice Privileges points for a $255 savings.

Quality Inn Anaheim North 6,000 points per night.

A Choice hotel within three miles of Disneyland at the lowest reward level of 6,000 points per night in summer season blows my mind.

One of the things about Disneyland is the ticket price for a three day ticket ($235) compared to a five day ticket ($275) is negligible. The real cost is the hotel stay for the extra two nights.

Using the strategy given here, I have shown how you can go from no Choice Privileges points to 36,000 points in a couple of days buying 36,000 points for $298.

Unfortunately, the only reward nights available are for King bed with occupancy limit of two. This hotel reward stay does not work if you need two beds, but can be a good deal for a couple.

Choice Anaheim North Quality

Quality Inn Anaheim North room rate is $694.60 after tax for published rate or 36,000 Choice Privileges points for six nights. You can buy 36,000 points for $298 and save nearly $400 on this hotel stay on a 5-day Disney parks trip.

Hacking Choice Privileges reward nights for an Anaheim Disneyland trip shows the value to be found in Choice Privileges points.

Wyndham Rewards also offers some great Disneyland budget deals I will cover in a future post on Loyalty Traveler.

  1. Those are some interesting finds. Did you compare Hotwire and Priceline Secret Deals? I have found those to provide better value unless there is a big event in town. Because of the fixed points price for redemption, using points is a win when for example you need a room during a major event in Las Vegas.
