American $444 Stockholm to San Francisco; $447 Oslo to San Francisco round trip

There seems to be mileage run potential in low fares from Oslo and Stockholm to San Francisco if you want to boost your AAdvantage elite qualifying miles in 2015. Stockholm deaprtures price at $465 with Oslo departures as low as $447 for travel in May and from September to December. Copenhagen to Los Angeles is a low $420 round trip in fall months, if that airport is more convenient.

AAdvantage Mileage Run Potential? Copenhagen to Los Angeles $421 round trip (April 27).

The deal here that makes these low fares even mileage run potential is American Airlines still earns redeemable miles based on flight miles, while United and Delta have moved to revenue based miles in 2015. You can put yourself into AAdvantage Platinum elite with 50,000 flight miles and benefits of 100% bonus elite miles and international lounge privileges as Oneworld Alliance Sapphire member for under $2,000 with four round trip tickets.

Use 20,000 AAdvantage miles to get to Oslo or Stockholm from San Francisco to start

A positioning flight to reach Oslo or Stockholm is priced high today ($800+) for travel on oneworld airlines. Flights have been dropping frequently over the past month to around $600 round trip and it is likely a matter of days before we see the fare drop again. Or redeem 20,000 AAdvantage miles to start the trip and throw away the last flight segment return from the USA to Scandinavia. You will make up the miles with flights and your increased elite miles bonus when you reach a higher tier AAdvantage elite level.

25,000 AAdvantage elite miles with two tickets; 50,000 elite miles with four trips

As I showed in my previous post for Copenhagen to Los Angeles at $420 round trip, you can pick up AAdvantage elite status at a relatively low price with two tickets or jump to oneworld Sapphite elite with lounge privileges and 100% elite bonus redeemable miles flying multiple Scandinavia to California tickets.

Stockholm to San Francisco at $444 round trip for flights in the fall months through American Airlines, US Airways and British Airways. Two tickets for $888 combine for over 25,112 elite qualifying flight miles.

Spend 20,000 AAdvantage miles for a positioning flight to Scandinavia and buy two tickets for $888 to bump your AAdvantage elite status by 25,000 miles. Minimum stays are covered by your time in California and then fly back to Scandinavia for a day or two and start the next ticket from Stockholm or Oslo to San Francisco.

I am not a big advocate of mileage runs anymore. I prefer to spend at least a few days in the destination when I travel long-haul international. But, if I wanted to boost my AA elite status, these deals are a cheap and easy way to pick up a lot of elite qualifying miles with AAdvantage. And if you have time, you can plan multiple one week trips to Scandinavia and earn AAdvantage elite and a load of redeemable miles.

Of course, if you are already in Scandinavia, come to California in the fall on these cheap fares. September and October are typically the best weather months of the year for the California coast.
