Airfare Deals hotel and travel deals 2015-Q2

Washington DC Dulles IAD and National DCA lowest summer fares in USA for Europe July travel

Washington D.C. travelers have the chance to score some of the best deals from the USA to Europe for travel mid-June to mid-August when most USA-Europe routes price well north of $1,000 per ticket. This is kind of like the fly from Canada discounts.

Loyalty Traveler – Want low fares to Europe this summer? Fly from Canada. (March 21)

Several routes from Washington Dulles IAD, National DCA and Baltimore BWI are available today for travel this summer with airfare from $750 to $850, even for July departures.

The best fares from the alliance airlines of Oneworld, Skyteam and Star Alliance are routes to Denmark, Norway, and Sweden where the big alliance airlines are combating low fare carriers like startup WOW operating from BWI and Icelandic from IAD. Aer Lingus keeps appearing in the fare discounts to Europe with discounts to Ireland, UK and Spain airports.

Here are deals for travel from IAD to Denmark and Norway around $800 for July 2015 departures. There are very few deals around the USA for travel to Europe under $1,000 roundtrip in July.

WOW Air is the new startup discount airline operating from Baltimore BWI. I’ll cover WOW in another post on traveling to Europe on the discount airlines. I am booked on a WOW flight this summer.

You don’t have to fly WOW to get a good July deal.

But you can.

WOW Airlines fare

July 22 – August 6, 2015 Baltimore BWI – CPH Copenhagen, Denmark

$600.06.

There are still deals to Europe from Washington DC on the major airlines. While these are the best fares around today, airline prices fluctuate and a better fare may be around any minute. Or not.

United Airlines Washington DC DCA – BLL Billund, Denmark

$832.10 July 7 – July 21

  • UA 3876 Washington DC DCA – EWR Newark, NJ
  • UA 38 Newark, NJ EWR – OSL Oslo, Norway
  • SK 1903 Oslo, Norway OSL – BLL Billund, Denmark

RyanAir flies from Billund to London with fare under $50 one way available for many dates in July and August. Flights are inexpensive to Poland and Baltic countries of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Stockholm and Helsinki are low cost tickets under $150 from Oslo and Copenhagen.

Return trip includes 23 hr 15 min overnight layover in Oslo.

  • SK1902 Billund, Denmark BLL – OSL Oslo, Norway
  • UA 39 Oslo OSL – EWR Newark, NJ
  • UA4373 Newark, NJ EWR – DCA Washington DC

DCA-BLL United $832 July 2015

United and KLM offer discount fares to several airports in Norway from Stavanger to Trondheim for July travel.

One good reason to purchase Choice Privileges points during Daily Getaways April 3 is for low cost hotel nights in Oslo and Stockholm where several hotels are available for 16,000 Choice Privileges points.

Loyalty Traveler – Daily Getaways 2015 discount hotel points preview for March 23 to April 10 (March 13)

Delta has similarly low fares for summer travel to Scandinavia from the Washington DC area with KLM and Air France.

Washington DC IAD – Oslo, Norway July 7 – 21, 2015

KLM Airlines $769.37

IAD-OSL KLM July 2015

Oslo does not have to be your ultimate destination. Last September I found many flights available from Oslo area airports to cities around Europe for under $100 roundtrip. RyanAir, Wizz and Norwegian fly out of TRF Oslo Torp Airport near Sandefjord, Norway.

Torp Sandefjord Airport

TORP Sandefjord Airport TRF is a secondary airport south of Oslo and the main airport for several low cost airlines like RyanAir and WIZZ. OSL is Oslo Gardermoen Airport, north of Oslo.

Hi Ric, maybe time for a post on changes you’ve been making to the focus of this blog, it’s been a lot more about airfares lately than hotel loyalty programs. Would you mind sharing your thoughts?

    Hi Janet

There is not much happening in hotel loyalty programs lately with most promotions in place through April.

Why am I writing about flight deals?

Well Janet, I have written hundreds of words here and then deleted them. I am still trying to figure out why I am writing about flight deals.
