Club Carlson Gold elite 2-for-1 rates are a good value hotel rate discount for Europe. The deal with the 2-for-1 rate, restricted to Gold and Concierge elite members, is a weekend rate must include either Friday or Saturday night. The Gold elite member pays only the first night’s rate with second night free.
Club Carlson Visa card members receive a complimentary Gold elite upgrade making this rate available for participating hotels in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Over the past few weeks I checked Club Carlson hotels in London and Dublin for the 2-for-1 rate. There is scarce availability for hotels in these two cities.
Last year I used the Club Carlson Gold elite 2-for-1 rate in Berlin.

Berlin
art’otel Berlin City Center West, by Park Plaza 39.50 EUR per night. That is $50.29 for a hotel that is 28,000 points per reward night. Paying $50 for a hotel night is even better value than paying 28,000 points for two nights as a Club Carlson Visa member on a 2-night reward stay with one night free. You can get much better redemption value using points for another Club Carlson stay.
Berlin is an all around good deal with Club Carlson 2-for-1 rates.
Berlin is a low cost city in general if you want to travel on a budget. I lived on hot Chinese noodle or rice meals for a week in Berlin last year at a cost of less than $10 per day, supplemented with grocery store breakfast and salads for other meals and lots of cheap beer for less than 75 cents per 0.5 liter in the market. Probably less than that price now with the fall of the Euro. Perfectly suitable hotel rooms under $50 per night is a story not replicated in London.
London on Club Carlson 2-for-1 rates
In London you find the Club Carlson 2-for-1 rates are not available for central London hotels. The hotels offering the 2-for-1 discount rate are airport hotels. The only thing worse than staying at an airport hotel for one night when you are not flying is a two-night stay at the airport.
Either the rate is not offered (12 hotels) or not available for the weekend selected in November (6 hotels) at central London hotels. Checking February 2015 should reveal availability, if there is any for 2-for-1 rates in low season.
Park Plaza Westminster Bridge is only central London hotel offering the 2-for-1 rate February 13-15 for a Valentine’s discount at 89.50 GBP or $145 USD per night. Other London Club Carlson hotels: 4 hotels $300 and up, 6 hotels $250 to $299; 4 hotels $200 to $250; 3 hotels $171 to $199.

The problem is London hotels basically have blocked out all 2-for-1 weekend rewards for November and December 2014 travel. Of six hotels in central London offering 2-for-1 rates, there are only three available dates for this discount rate in December at two hotels. And two of those dates are Thursday, December 25.
Club Carlson 2-for-1 rates are effectively blocked out for the remainder of 2014 in central London hotels. You can still get the rate at some London airport hotels and outlying metropolitan London hotel locations.
Dublin on Club Carlson 2-for-1 rate
One good feature of the Club Carlson 2-for-1 rate is it can be canceled without penalty based on the normal flexible cancellation policy for the hotel.
I booked Dublin more than two weeks ago when I saw an available 2-for-1 rate.
Radisson Blu Royal Dublin has no 2-for-1 dates available for 2014 and scarce availability in January and February 2015.
Radisson Blu St. Helen’s Dublin has no availability for 2014 dates and limited availability for January and February 2015.
I was able to book Radisson Blu St. Helen’s Hotel two weeks ago for 60 EUR ($75) per night using Club Carlson 2-for-1 rate for my stay this month.
Club Carlson 2-for-1 rate offers a great hotel rate discount. Since these are flexible cancellation rates, members should book reservations early and check back regularly to see if new availability opens up for your Carlson Rezidor stays in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
