Loyalty Traveler Hilton HHonors Points and Money Rewards table

This post includes an updated Loyalty Traveler table showing the points and money components needed for Hilton HHonors Points and Money Rewards with a column showing the cost for HHonors points saved.

HHonors Points and Money Rewards require 40% of the points needed for a HHonors Standard Reward, plus a cash component ranging from $30 to $200 per night as shown in the Loyalty Traveler Hilton HHonors Points and Money Rewards table below.

Hilton HHonors does not have a table of Points & Money Reward rates. The effect of Seasonal Rewards pricing makes it difficult to determine the Points & Money Reward rate based on the designated HHonors hotel reward category.

In the old HHonors system I knew HHonors Category 6 meant a hotel reward night was a fixed rate of 40,000 points per night. The current system of HHonors Seasonal Rewards means a HHonors Reward Category 6 hotel can float by calendar month through a range of reward rates.

Category 6 hotel reward nights can be priced at 30,000 points or 40,000 points or 50,000 points per night depending on the calendar month.

You need to check the hotel stay dates on the HHonors Points Search Tool to see what the actual reward night cost is for HHonors points.

The preceding explanation in this post for how a Hilton HHonors category 6 reward night correlates to the Hilton HHonors Points and Money Reward rate is necessary to understand my Loyalty Traveler table.

Category 3 to 10 hotels are the sweet spot in the HHonors Points and Money Rewards table. Saving HHonors points with a cash payment is like buying HHonors points for under $4.00 per 1,000 points.

Category 1 Points & Money has a comparatively unfavorable cash factor with the cost for points at $10 per 1,000 points to save 3,000 points with $30.

You can actually ignore the HHonors category and look solely at the HHonors Standard Reward cost on any specific date to determine the HHonors Points & Money Reward cost.

Example where HHonors Reward Category differs from Points & Money table hotel reward category.

Hilton San Francisco Union Square HHonors Reward Category 7

Hilton San Francisco Union Square is a category 7 hotel at 50,000 points per night, except for September and October when the reward price rises to 60,000 points per night during peak season for San Francisco.

Hilton SF standard award

HHonors Standard Reward rate at 50,000 points per night is widely available for 11 of 15 remaining July 2014 dates.

HHonors Standard Reward rate of 50,000 points per night correlates to HHonors Points & Money Reward rate of 20,000 points + $85.

Hilton SF P-M rate

Hilton San Francisco Union Square HHonors Standard Reward rate is 50,000 points July 20 or 20,000 points + $85. There is far less availability of HHonors Points & Money Reward nights with only one date over the next 15 nights compared to 11 of 15 nights available for HHonors Standard Rewards.

Hilton SF rates

Hilton San Francisco Union Square is $264 per night after tax for a AAA rate.

$264/50,000 points = $5.28 per 1,000 points redemption value.

HHonors Points & Money Reward allows member to save 30,000 points for $85 cash.

Assume 16% tax on $85 and a $99 after-tax payment.

$264 – $99 = $165 saved with 20,000 HHonors points used for HHonors Points & Money Reward night.

$165/20,000 points = $8.25 per 1,000 points redemption value.

HHonors Points & Money Reward night increases the value of HHonors points in this example. A Standard Reward using 50,000 points gives a redemption value of $5.28 per 1,000 points with a cash savings of $264 using 50,000 points.

HHonors Points & Money Reward night increases the redemption value to $8.25 per 1,000 points when using 20,000 points + $85 to save $165 on the hotel rate.
