Airline Frequent Flier Programs Hotel points to Airline Miles Exchange Hyatt Gold Passport Hyatt Hotels

Guide to Hyatt Gold Passport Airline Partners

Hyatt Gold Passport has 28 airline partners for earning miles with Hyatt brand hotel stays or for Hyatt points-to-miles exchange.

Earning Miles instead of Hyatt Gold Passport points

Hyatt Gold Passport members can choose to earn miles instead of Hyatt Gold Passport points by presenting your frequent flyer number to the hotel front desk at check-in.

Miles are an option I recommend only if Hyatt stays are infrequent or if your hotel spend is less than $200 for the stay. Hyatt Gold Passport members normally earn 5 points per dollar in hotel spend. Assume a one-time $80 Hyatt brand hotel night for a member without elite status earns 400 points. Earning miles in your frequent flyer program will add 500 miles and extend the expiration date on miles in your frequent flyer account. 500 miles is better value than 400 Hyatt points assuming there is not a better Hyatt bonus points promotion you can earn.

Only Hilton HHonors hotel loyalty program allows members to earn both miles and points on each hotel stay. All the other major hotel loyalty programs require the member to choose between earning miles or points for each hotel stay.

Earn 500 miles per stay with the following travel partners when you present your travel partner membership number at check-in1:

Convert Points To Miles

Hyatt Gold Passport points may be exchanged into airline frequent flyer miles.

Receive 1 mile for every 2.5 Hyatt Gold Passport points you convert, starting with a minimum of 5,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points.

The reason I stated 500 miles is better than points for low spend Hyatt stays is $1,000 in spend is needed to earn 5,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points for a member without elite status and no promotion bonus points. For the infrequent Hyatt guest, rather than earn orphan Hyatt points, the better choice can be earning 500 miles on low spend stays. 5,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points exchanges into 2,000 miles. Four $80 Hyatt stays earn 2,000 miles if you choose miles instead of points..

Hyatt Gold Passport Point conversions can be made in 1,250 points increments.

Earn 5,000 Bonus Miles when you convert 50,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points. This works out to 25% more miles.

Convert 50,000 Points → Receive 20,000 Miles

+

Earn 5,000 Bonus Miles = Total 25,000 Miles.

Convert Hyatt Points to Miles (page access requires Hyatt Gold Passport member login).

Hyatt Gold Passport 25% bonus at 50,000 points = 25,000 miles exchange is comparable to Starwood Preferred Guest exchange rate 25% bonus at 20,000 points = 25,000 miles since base earning rate of Starwood Hotel stays is 2 points/$1 and base earn rate for Hyatt is 5 points/$1.

SPG has a higher elite bonus at 50% for Gold and Platinum elites, so earning rate per dollar is higher for SPG elite member compared to Hyatt Gold Passport elite member at Platinum elite 15% and Diamond elite 30% bonus points. SPG American Express bonus is 2 points/$1 for SPG Hotel spend at 100% base points bonus. Hyatt Gold Passport Visa hotel spend earns 3 points/$1 or 60% base points bonus, so SPG wins out on credit card points earning too.

That being said, Hyatt Gold Passport has a decent points-to-miles exchange program comparable to Starwood Preferred Guest with just slightly fewer airline partners at 28 compared to 34 with SPG.

Hyatt Gold Passport is the only major hotel partner with Royal Brunei if that is an airline program you wish to earn miles for tickets.

To convert your points to miles you must have a minimum of 5,000 available Hyatt Gold Passport points and a valid frequent flyer account with one of Hyatt Gold Passport’s participating travel partners. After completing the convert Points to Miles form, your points will be immediately deducted from your account for conversion to your selected travel partner membership account. Please allow up to 4 weeks for the miles to appear on your account.

When you are finished entering the points you wish to convert, click “Convert” to submit your request. You will be taken to a confirmation page detailing how many points were converted and when you can expect the miles to appear on your travel partner membership account. The confirmation will also be emailed to you if we have an email address on file.
