Club Carlson Gold elites 2-for-1 and 4-for-2 rates

One of the great benefits of Club Carlson Gold elite status are special rates in Europe, Middle East and Africa with 2-for-1 and 4-for-2 where one or two nights are free on paid stays. Club Carlson Visa card members are granted free Gold elite status. Of course, you get one free night on an award stay, but there are hotels where you might get better value saving your points and spending cash.

4-for-2 rate discount analysis

Here is an example of the rate savings on a 4-night stay at Radisson Blu Oslo, Norway.

June 12-16, 2014 Thursday arrival for four nights on 4-for-2 rate.

Regular 15% rate discount for 3+ nights = $244.92 per night.

Rad Blu 3nights rate

$244.92 per night is lowest publicly available rate for this four night stay.

Club Carlson Visa card members will get one night free at this category 6 hotel at 50,000 points per award night. This four night stay will require 150,000 points with one night free as an award.

Rad Blu Oslo 4-for-2

Club Carlson 4-for-2 rate is $118.92 per night for this four night stay; less than half the cost of the regular 15% discounted rate for Radisson Blu Plaza Hotels, Oslo.

Carlson Rezidor Hotels Group operates the EMEA region separately from the Asia-Pacific Americas region. These 2-for-1 and 4-for-2 rates are only available at participating Carlson Rezidor hotels in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

You can check availability and rates online without being a Gold elite member. I needed to use the flexible dates calendar to find the 4-for-2 availability at Radisson Blu Oslo since my first date search was unavailable for this rate.

This could be a good reason to consider getting a Club Carlson Visa if you have a trip planned for the EMEA region and need a good hotel rate discount.

The 2-for-1 rate is one of the reasons the Club Carlson Visa is the champion of all the hotel credit cards, at least when traveling in Europe. Each hotel seems to operate differently in how they load available rooms onto the Club Carlson web site. Some hotels only appear to load a few rooms, for a few months out. Other hotels have great availability. Here’s a tip: Club Carlson (like Starwood) let’s you book rooms more 12 months out. At one of Radisson Blu’s newest hotel’s I was able to book a 2-for-1 rate next summer. But get this: the nightly rate was the hotel’s winter rate. An award winning hotel, rated number 2 on TripAdvisor, went for 145 Euros (or 74.50 Euros a night).

@DWG – I saved a bit of money last year in Berlin staying at the Radisson Blu with the AquaDom attraction on a 2-for-1 rate.

Learned that AquaDom is run by Merlin Entertainment and not the hotel and requires tickets even when a guest at the hotel.

I had no idea about these, thanks for sharing. Club Carlson is particularly useful in Europe. Just had stays in Vienna and Lucerne where other points redemption options were few and expensive. Radisson Blu’s in both were ok, not spectacular.
