Marriott Hotels Marriott Rewards (replaced by Marriott Bonvoy)

Marriott I presume. Protea deal for 116 hotels in Africa complete.

The big financial news of the day in hotels is the completion of Marriott International’s acquisition of 116 hotels in the Protea Hospitality Group for about USD $200 million. Marriott is now the largest hotel operator on the African continent.

The Protea portfolio includes hotels in seven countries.

  • South Africa = 79 hotels

Another 37 hotels are in these African countries:

  • Malawi,
  • Namibia,
  • Nigeria,
  • Tanzania,
  • Uganda
  • Zambia

According to the press release, Marriott expects that the Protea portfolio will be available for booking on Marriott.com or via Marriott International’s Global Reservations Centers toward the end of May, and the hotels will join the Marriott Rewards guest loyalty program at a later point, to be announced.

Did you bold this for Gary Leff?

“the hotels will join the Marriott Rewards guest loyalty program at a later point, to be announced.”

Actually, I did not see Gary Leff’s post until after I posted this article. Foresight I guess.
