Last day 2013 for earning and burning free nights

December 31st and the last day to earn my IHG Big Win credits and burn my free Radisson hotel night earned in 2012 from the Club Carlson 1+1 promotion. I was successful in both tasks.

Holiday Inn San Jose Airport has style I did not expect. This was a great hotel room and a stylish environment all around.

This $81 room night should earn between 25,000 and 30,000 points from the 2013 Big Win promotion.

San Francisco Days, San Francisco Nights

Hard to believe that I have not stayed a single hotel night in San Francisco in 2013 until this last day of the year. The city has been too expensive for hotel stays with rates regularly topping $250 per night at most brand name hotels.

Radisson San Francisco Fisherman’s Wharf is a hotel I always thought looked less than stellar from the outside. From the inside of the hotel I realize the location and San Francisco Bay views are among the best in San Francisco. Step outside right onto the wharf and a two minute walk to Pier 39.

Radisson view

View of Alcatraz Island from the Radisson 4th floor room (top floor). There are other rooms with even better views.

In San Diego last week I listened to the fog horn all night. No fog horn sounds last night here by the bay.

Pier 39 sea lions

I did hear the sea lions at Pier 39 sitting on the docks of the bay.

Dock of the Bay

I’m just sitting on the dock of the bay wasting time this New Year’s Eve.

Happy New Year 2014. Best Wishes.

Happy New Year Ric, great year of posts. Was that a mattress run in SJC for the points? You normally don’t seem like the mattress run type, so just curious.

@Carl – Yes, it was a quick stop as part of the San Francisco trip.

I used to mattress run and mileage run annually, especially in December.

Now I mostly find it a waste of money since the free night opportunities with promotion bonuses are not what they used to be in hotels. And mileage runs are being overrun by the spending requirements of 2014 for elites.

I have an IHG PointsBreak hotel I want to stay at in January for a few nights. Makes getting to Holiday Inn SJC this week a good investment.
