Note: Today’s Loyalty Traveler post on 15 HHonors Category-2 hotels in Europe was accidentally written over yesterday’s post of Hilton HHonors Category-2 Hotels International list of 33 hotels. This article restores the lost Sunday post and Monday’s article HHonors Europe category-2 hotels article is found in this link.

Hilton HHonors category-2 hotels are 10,000 points per night or 40,000 points with 5th Night Free for elite members. There are 33 category-2 hotels outside the USA compared to 101 category-2 hotels in the USA.
These hotels are also available as Points & Money reward nights for only 4,000 points + $35 cash per reward night. 5th night free does not apply to Points & Money Rewards.
It is hard to imagine the room rates correlate worldwide to category designation.
Does the USA have the lowest room rates at these category-2 hotels compared to hotels elsewhere around the world?
There are 33 Hilton HHonors Category-2 hotels in 11 countries outside the USA compared to 101 hotels inside the USA.
Loyalty Traveler Category-2 Reward Analysis
There are some sweet spots in the HHonors Category-2 hotels at 10,000 points per night or 40,000 points for 5 nights if you are at least a Silver VIP elite.
China has six hotels in category 2. DoubleTree Beijing stands out as a place where a 5-night stay might be desirable.
November 13-18, 2013 for five night stay.
- $150 Advance Purchase (5 nights = $825 USD after 15% tax)
- $176 BAR (5 nights = $1,012 USD after 15% tax)
- 4,000 points + $35 Points & Money (5 nights = 20,000 + $175)
- 10,000 points Standard Reward (5 nights = 40,000 points VIP Reward)
- Points redemption value is more than $20/1,000 points which is very high for Hilton HHonors points.
DoubleTree Beijing also gets very good reviews on TripAdvisor.com.
Egypt has two Hilton brand hotels in HHonors Category-2 to go with its seven HHonors Category-1 hotels. Egypt is effectively a PointStretcher country with all its low reward category hotels.
Jordan has the DoubleTree Aqaba located on the Red Sea in the only coastal city of Jordan. Aqaba is a city of 100,000 known for luxury resorts and beaches. The area is the site of the ancient city of Ayla. Rates in November $130 to $150 per night.
Aqaba is also home to multi-billion dollar marinas and the new Red Sea Astrarium for the world’s only Star Trek experience in the theme park.
Malaysia has the category 2 DoubleTree Kuala Lumpur which might be a city stopover if traveling to the category-1 Hilton Batang Ai Longhouse Resort on Malaysia’s Borneo Island. DoubleTree Kuala Lumpur room rates around $100 to $130 per night.
Vietnam Hilton Garden Inn Hanoi rates in November $(0 to $105.
Mexico offers seven hotels overall with three hotels in the Queretaro region and two hotels in Saltillo. My Mexico geography is weak. Here is Google maps.
Saltillo is about 50 miles west of Monterrey, Mexico. The area has several major automobile manufacturing plants. The city of more than 700,000 has many historic buildings from 1750 to 1800. The Bird Museum and the Desert Museum are two world class museums in the city.
Queretaro is about 130 miles northwest of Mexico City and a booking industrial commercial center, yet the city has historic significance. In 1996 the historical center of Queretaro was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site with many ornate monuments and architecture from the 17th and 18th century. National Geographic listed Queretaro as one of the top 15 historic destinations of the world in 2008.
