Candlewood Suites IHG One Rewards InterContinental Hotels Group

Candlewood Suites IHG extended stay brand

Candlewood Suites offer an apartment style room with a one bedroom suite containing a living room, separate bedroom, kitchen, table and bathroom. On my road trip across the west this month I had the opportunity to revisit Candlewood Suites in Craig, Colorado after a couple of years since last staying in the hotel brand. The room looked exactly like I remember the room where I stayed in 2011 in a different city and state.

IHG Candlewood Suites are the lower hotel market segment as a midscale brand according to Smith Travel Research U.S. Chain Scales for ranking hotel brands. Staybridge Suites is an upscale extended stay brands in the IHG chain. Average daily rates are higher at Staybridge Suites.

IHG Rewards Club earns points for hotel stays at a lower rate of 5 points per dollar for the two IHG extended stay brands of Candlewood Suites and Staybridge Suites. All other IHG brands earn 10 points per dollar at Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Hotel Indigo, Crowne Plaza, and InterContinental Hotels in North America.

Extended stay brands tend to have many business and corporate travelers on projects requiring an extended stay at a hotel. These properties also tend to be a good value for families since two adults and two children can comfortably stay in a one bedroom suite. Prices tend to be far less than Hilton Embassy Suites or IHG Staybridge Suites. Candlewood Suites are comparable in market segment and price to Marriott’s TownePlace Suites.

The main difference from TownePlace Suites is the Marriott brand includes complimentary breakfast while Candlewood Suites offers items for purchase.

I love candlewoods but the 5 points per $ earn rate makes me avoid them for my normal weekly business travel.

I had tried to book Candlewood on pointbreak, but only rooms available are limited to two people. Is the sleeper sofa a sure feature of the this brand?

Sleeper sofa is a feature in the one bedroom suites.
