Crowne Plaza Hotels Holiday Inn Hotel Rate Discounts IHG One Rewards InterContinental Hotels Group

Making London Affordable with IHG 2-for-1 rates

IHG 2-for-1 rates

One of the best discounts I know on paid rates for London and many places in Europe is 2-for-1 rates with InterContinental Hotels Group.

This is an ongoing promotion around for more than five years that provides great discounts for London.

IHG 2-for-1 discounts are prepaid, nonrefundable rates,so it best to book close to your stay dates when you are more assured of being in London for your travel.

One of the best features of the 2-for-1 rate is the ability to book higher category rooms, even suites. Also, the discount is often restricted to weekends in many locations. London usually has IHG hotels offering 2-for-1 rates any two days of the week.

Availability of the IHG 2-for-1 rates at hotels across London is not as widespread in my searches today compared to past checks.

In this post I show how 2-for-1 rates at three different IHG Crowne Plaza hotels can be used for six nights in London in different parts of the city. It is also possible to book consecutive 2-for-1 stays at the same hotel if moving around hotels is not a favorable option.

There are 2-for-1 rates at Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels in London.

I did not see 2-for-1 rates availability at any InterContinental Hotels.

Checking random dates between March and June 2013 showed five or less hotels in central London participating in 2-for-1 rates. In past years I typically found 10 or more hotels with 2-for-1 rates.

IHG seems to have tightened up on 2-for-1 discounts in London.

Crowne Plaza London – The City

There are cheaper options with IHG 2-for-1 rates. I want to show how these rates are available every day of the week allowing you to move around London.

  • King Bed Executive Suite (stunning view of Royal Victoria Dock, 4pm checkout) 150.50 GBP = $229.18 USD.

Here are examples of rates for June 14-16, 2013 for a Friday to Sunday stay.

Holiday Inn London Kensington Forum

  • Standard Room = 75 GBP or $114.21 USD. VAT tax included.
  • King Bed with Lounge Access = 99.50 GBP or $151.52 USD.
  • One King Bed Suite = 117.50 GBP or $178.93 USD.

I actually expected more IHG hotels to offer this rate for a weekend in June based on past searches. Looks like the 2-for-1 discount is available at far fewer London hotels than in the past.

IHG 2-for-1 rates provide a range of upper upscale hotel room options at different price points in a variety of locations around London and many other cities in the UK and Europe.

One of the best discounts I know on paid rates for London and many places in Europe is 2-for-1 rates with InterContinental Hotels Group.

London on Points

The high price of London hotels makes the city a great place to redeem points for award stays.

The number of hotels in London by loyalty program reveals  members of most hotel loyalty programs can find a property in London using points.

Unfortunately many of the hotel loyalty programs in 2013 have increased the cost of hotel award nights in London.

London by Hotel Chains

  • IHG Priority Club = 37 hotels.
  • Wyndham = 36 hotels.
  • Le Club Accorhotels = 30 hotels.
  • Hilton HHonors = 22 hotels.
  • Club Carlson = 20 hotels.
  • Best Western = 19 hotels.
  • Choice Privileges = 14 hotels.
  • Marriott Rewards = 13 hotels.
  • Starwood = 4 hotels.
  • Hyatt = 2 hotels.

Any of these hotel loyalty programs can place you in London on points.

I prefer Hotel Indigo in London. Sure, it’s a bit outside of the inner city. But you can easily get anywhere from paddington.

Did a week’s stay in cash and points at the Crowne Plaza Shoreditch last year, and was very pleased. Hotel isn’t in the center of the city, but is in a great location for young people or couples willing to walk. It’s a very short walk to the nearest tube station, and we were even able to walk on a clear day south to the river, and the Tower of London. Some nice bars there in Shoreditch, and it’s home to the Vietnamese community and their great restaurants.

I have to put in a plug for the wonderful Hotel Indigo Tower Hill that is in London’s square mile. My wife and I have stayed there on IHG points several times and loved every minute of our stays. Wonderful hotel, great staff, spacious rooms and walk to the Tower and the Aldgate tube station.
I can’t say enough about it. I would recommend it to anyone.

What does T&C#6 mean? It says “Single supplement will be charged at the full room per night charge” which sounds as though I cannot take advantage of this rate unless I am traveling with someone. If so, boo . . . or I need a friend. Maybe both.

All three hotel indigo in London are very nice

  • Ric Garrido March 25, 2013

@MJM – I think it just means the rate is the same if you book for one person or two persons.

I think Hotel Indigo also participates in 2-for-1 rates. I just did not see those rates for the dates I checked for London researching this post. In the past I have seen 2-for-1 rates at Hotel Indigo brand for London.
